West Louisville, home of the new Republic Bank Foundation YMCA, has a population of about 92,000 residents (68% African-American, 28% Caucasian, median income $25,000), plus a large number of office and manufacturing worksites in the area. The Membership and Healthy Living Director, in concert with the Executive Director, will have a unique career opportunity to lead the planning and delivery of programs and services in this new YMCA (opening in October) that will significantly improve the health of the underserved West Louisville community.
- Uphold the mission of the YMCA, and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature.
- Serves as a role model and advocate of the YMCA Mission, Promise, Values and Voice.
- Implements membership sales strategies that support recruitment of new members. Cross promotes membership and other branch programming.
- Develops and directs health and wellness strategies and programs (including Group Fitness, Personal Training, Youth Fitness Fundamentals, etc.) that support the engagement and retention of existing members.
- Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.
- Responsible for daily operations of the Welcome and Wellness Centers, including staff supervision, member engagement, equipment maintenance, cleanliness and safety.
- Recruits, hires, trains, supervises and evaluates Membership and Healthy Living staff.Develops an effective and mission-driven team, focused on relationship building and healthy living.
- Develops, manages and monitors the membership and healthy living operating budget and meets or exceeds budget targets.
- Promotes program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members. Coordinates program registration, including logistics to support phone, walk-in and web registration. Coordinates with marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provides ongoing support to Program Directors on related issues.
- Takes a leadership role in the Annual Giving Campaign and ongoing volunteer and donor cultivation.
- Organizes membership events at the YMCA and represents the YMCA at community events to promote the Y.
- Participates in staff meetings and/or related meetings.
- Completes required abuse risk management training. Adheres to policies and procedures related to appropriate boundaries with children. Monitors building, staff and members and reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations to supervisor. Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements to authorities.
- A passion for and experience working with urban communities and vulnerable populations.
- We seek proven skills in membership development, marketing, fiscal management, fitness program development, volunteer development and community partnerships.
- Ability to develop and lead new member connection and education efforts such as orientations, group workouts, special events, etc.
- Two or more years of management experience, preferred in a YMCA or other not-for-profit organization.
- Ability to set the standards for and model exceptional member service and build a culture of member involvement and engagement in all staff.
- Excellent problem solving, organizational and communications skills.
- Prefer knowledge of and experience in serving people of all socio-economic levels and diverse backgrounds.
- Strong leadership and excellent customer service skills.
- A positive, can-do attitude and the ability to work creatively and independently or as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills, utilizing both verbal and electronic communications.
- Innovative program development skills with a focus on meeting community health needs.
- Demonstrated ability to think and lead strategically.
- Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule, particularly evening and weekend hours.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office. Daxko knowledge preferred.
- CPR and first aid certification course (30 days post hire).

STARTING SALARY: $40,000+ (commensurate with experience)
