The Association Membership Director will be responsible for significantly growing membership in terms of both people and revenue.  Exceeding monthly and annual goals will require creating and implementing a comprehensive member recruitment plan as well as inspiring a consistently exceptional member experience across all branches to create higher member retention. 

    The Association Membership Director will work collaboratively with branch leadership and marketing teams to achieve the association’s growth goals.  Successful candidates must have a proven track record of developing and implementing effective marketing and sales plans, achieving sales goals, and demonstrating effective collaborative leadership (not just supervisory leadership) with multiple teams.  S/he must be highly organized with strong relationship building skills to effectively work with co-workers, members, volunteers, donors and the general public.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Model the YMCA character values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.  Represent the YMCA brand by being Genuine, Nurturing, Hopeful, Welcoming, and Determined
  • Foster a culture of teamwork between all Y locations and program departments, which mutually feeds both membership and program growth/quality
  • Develop and implement a membership development strategic plan which encompasses all aspects of membership recruitment, retention, and an exceptional member experience
  • Drive increased membership through the creation and implementation of a cutting edge marketing and recruitment plan
  • Build membership and staff that reflect the community through intentional diversity and inclusion efforts
  • On-board new Membership Directors and create an effective team of all Directors who contribute to an exceptional member experience
  •  Drive a successful corporate membership program which contributes to overall membership growth
  • Represent and promote the YMCA at local community events
  • Create consistent practices to ensure a seamless transition from prospect to fully-engaged member
  • Establish exit interview protocols for departing members and strategies for engaging former members
  • Strengthen the connection between membership recruitment/enrollment and coaching members to successfully meet their healthy living goals with widespread understanding of human behavior change and maintaining a healthy lifestyle
  • Stay connected to national trends and new ideas to strengthen membership development
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of eight (8) years experience in progressively responsible sales management with a proven track record of surpassing challenging performance goals with knowledge of wellness & fitness preferred
  • Ability to articulate a vision and inspire teamwork toward that vision
  • Must be willing and able to work in excess of a 40 hour work week with irregular hours
  • Demonstrated ability to drive organizational change
  • Results-oriented leader able to execute effective retention strategies that build member loyalty
  • Excellent presentation, writing and negotiation skills
  • A positive, can-do attitude and the ability to work creatively and independently or as part of a team
  • Sound judgment and decision making as well as problem solving and interpersonal skills to relate to people of all socio-economic levels and diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Ability to think and plan ahead strategically for multiple years, portray good analytical skills, and demonstrate assertiveness and initiative to manage the scope and diversity of the responsibilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 
  • Ability to work within a diverse, matrix environment; able to handle multiple demands and priorities to achieve organizational objectives
  • Knowledge of Salesforce or other CRM preferred
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Experience with presales and opening a new facility a plus
Compensation/Benefits:

STARTING SALARY: $70,000+ based on experience
