Areas of Responsibility: 

The Regional Director of Sports is responsible for the administration and management of the year-round youth/adult sports programs at the West Valley & Mid Valley YMCA's, Adventure Guides, and Healthy Kids' Day coordination and planning. Programs include youth basketball, sports clinics & tournaments, leagues, all adult sports, ball hockey, Itty Bitty sports, after school sports enrichment, soccer, track & field, Tee Ball and others that may include martial arts, dance, PLAY, and other new programs. The Director must possess knowledge of basic sports rules, and general principles of recreation classes and programming, with a background or experience around age-appropriate recreation programs. The Director must be comfortable leading groups, work with partners like the LA Kings & LA Clippers and/or coaching part-time staff to ensure programs and delivering classes that encourage fun, development, and a safe environment in accordance with YMCA goals and objectives.

The Regional Director of Youth Sports will be a strong influence in the direction of youth sports within the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles. The Director must have the willingness to represent the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles by personal adherence to all policies and must exemplify the YMCA's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

This employee must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, evenings, weekends or holidays as needed. Significant local travel is also expected. The Director acts as a liaison to the community, partners, and stakeholders, as directed, and may play an active leadership role in the expansion of effectiveness of youth sports within the branches. The Director also coordinates branch volunteer program and has the ability to inspire volunteer coaches.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively communicate the mission, vision and values of the YMCA.
  • Help plan, implement, and develop age appropriate youth and adult sports/recreation programming across both branch service areas.
  • Leads promotional efforts for our sports/recreation programs at local schools, and adjacent communities.
  • Coordinate, plan, and implement branch Healthy Kids' Day.
  • Implement developmentally-appropriate sports programming, including creating California State aligned physical education curriculum, for the PLAY Program for Elementary and Middle School age youth.
  • Monitor/assist PLAY program at all locations including training staff, auditing, and evaluating the program regularly.
  • Foster positive relationships with staff, members and volunteers.
  • Provide on-going leadership, professional guidance and development to staff.
  • Assists branches in the development of their sports budgets.
  • Ensure high quality programs through innovative program development, audits and evaluation.
  • Provide direction on overall participation growth in all leagues.
  • Guide staff on providing a safe and clean program environment/area.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with staff (cluster meetings, meetings with branch staff, etc.).
  • Maintain complete familiarity of all risk management procedures and policies for department areas.
  • Provide coverage and leadership at the branch level, when needed, at a variety of times (evenings and weekends).
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management.
  • Demonstrate the Six Pillars of Character (Trustworthiness, Citizenship, Respect, Responsibility, Caring, and Fairness) as well as the YMCA Core Values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff.
  • Demonstrate competencies in and willingness to develop in the Cause Driven Leadership areas of mission advancement, collaboration, operational effectiveness and personal growth.
  • All other duties as assigned by your direct supervisor.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field: Kinesiology, Physical Education, and/or youth recreation OR related experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • RELATED EXPERIENCE: Minimum three years' experience in youth program development and management; Minimum three years' experience and proven success managing and developing staff and finances.
  • Maintain current CPR, AED, first aid and emergency oxygen or acquire within 60 days of hire.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00
