The Director of Programs will be responsible for leading the delivery of care and support services in Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, Kern and Tulare Counties, California.  This will involve managing staff and volunteers to deliver care consultation, community education programs, support groups and physician outreach to individuals living with dementia, key family and friends, healthcare providers and the general public.  It will also involve significant outreach and community engagement to develop and facilitate appropriate partnerships. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Lead the implementation strategy for the delivery of care and support programs in the chapter's territory.
  • Conduct promotion and outreach on behalf of the organization, with a focus on community engagement and increasing awareness.
  • Conduct new and current outreach efforts and build working relationships within the aging network, service providers, community agencies and leaders, as well as with other stakeholders who collaborate on Association initiatives.
  • Manage staff and volunteers by providing strategic direction to ensure delivery of the Association's care and support services including care consultation, community education programs, support groups, physician outreach, and Helpline. 
  • Hire and train new staff for increased program delivery needs.
  • Provide leadership oversight to build a strong volunteer engagement program by recruiting, screening, training and managing/supervise volunteer community educators, caregiver support group facilitators, and Speakers Bureau participants.   
  • Work in partnership with staff to identify and meet the needs of diverse communities and populations.
  • Identify potential grant opportunities; complete written proposals for submission.
  • Collaborate closely with advocacy staff and other stakeholders on care and support initiatives.
  • Fully engage in a culture where team collaboration is highly valued.
Educational Background: 
Master's degree in health care related field: social work, psychology, counseling, nursing, gerontology, public health or related
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in management of social service or disease-related programs
  • Ability to work with a wide range of constituents including persons with dementia, family caregivers, volunteers, foundations, and corporations
  • Experience in volunteer management and support
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in community engagement and outreach
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills to plan, implement, and evaluate program activities, as well as to lead a staff of program professionals
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including dynamic presentation skills
  • Ability to travel across chapter territories and occasionally to other national locations
  • Access to reliable vehicle, valid driver's license and proof of automobile insurance required
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
