Context: Sierra Club is working in partnership with allies on a campaign to end neighborhood oil drilling in Los Angeles County. We will be organizing volunteers to engage local community members about the health, environmental and climate impacts of living near oil fields and what they can do to make a difference.  The Canvass Director will be a key member of the team and the face of the program.

Scope: The Canvass Director will be a key member of the team and the face of the program. The Canvass Director will assist in the planning of and manage the execution of door to door and street canvassing.  The successful candidate will be a dynamic thinker who excels at project management, takes ownership of a program, and finds satisfaction in the development of a team, and takes personal pride in all aspects of the job and program. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Run staff/volunteer meetings and skill trainings.
  • Training team members in all aspects of performance of their job initially and ongoing utilizing in- office and field tools, and assisting in the development and production of training systems and materials.
  • Assess and communicate team members’ job performance daily, utilizing reporting, team meetings, one-on-one check-ins and other tools as useful.
  • Daily reporting of progress and making ongoing recommendations to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Excellent understanding of door to door canvassing
  • Minimum of one year management experience
  • Foreign language helpful but not required
  • Excellent understanding of standard campaign data systems, including VAN
  • Minimum one year additional organizing experience
  • Ability to travel independently by car or public transportation
