The Associate, Development Operations will be a critical member of the Teach For America – Los Angeles’ Development team, enabling our regional organization to secure the financial support and advocacy necessary to expand and deepen our impact. You will be primarily responsible for implementing strong operational systems to ensure our growing community of donors and supports is deeply engaged with and inspired by our work. You will do this by managing strong team operations that ensure close and accurate progress tracking, ensuring excellent data integrity and accuracy, crafting compelling written communications and collateral, executing logistics of events and external communications, and managing institutional grant reporting for a small portfolio of donors.
This position is an excellent way to gain exposure to nonprofit fundraising, communications, development operations, research, grant writing, and event planning. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated to strive for operational excellence, critically think and prioritize projects and tasks, and operate as a constant learner and self-starter. This role reports to the Managing Director, Development.
Development Operations (35%)
- Maintain data integrity of a comprehensive constituent relationship management database (Salesforce) and files that include accurate external constituent information (background research, contact information, etc.)
- Efficiently track constituent communications, actions, events, and interactions
- Work closely with the team to manage the calendar of cultivation activities and to maximize opportunities that span constituencies
- Manage reports, dashboards, and ad-hoc requests for database information that will allow the team to track progress to key metrics throughout the year
- Develop internal operational systems that will maximize efficiency and support the team in achieving our goals
Donor Stewardship and Cultivation Support (35%)
- Work closely with the team, particularly the Manager of Donor Engagement, to plan and execute a sequence of communications, actions, and events for constituents in their portfolios to increase their understanding of and commitment to Teach For America
- Create relevant collateral for meeting materials and partnering with the national marketing team to adapt templates and other materials as needed
- Manage mass mailings and communication including social media accounts
- Support logistics for inspiring events, school visits, and board meetings including: creating and compiling materials; involving corps members, alumni and speakers; and managing execution of internal and external follow-up
Grant Writing (20%)
- Write compelling grant proposals and reports for a subset of donors
- Ensure all grants and reports are submitted according to procedures and deadlines
- Compile data and supplementary materials (financial reports, news articles, statistics on programmatic initiatives, corps member/alumni anecdotes, etc.)
Other Organizational and Regional Priorities (10%)
- Participate in region- and organization-wide initiatives and events such as corps member selection, staff learning and development days, new corps member confirmation, and other events
- 2+ years of office experience required
- Proficiency with MS Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Google docs required
- Experience with Salesforce (or other Constituent Relationship Management tool) preferred
- Experience with constituent management and/or grant writing preferred
- Knowledge of basic graphic and web design tools a plus
