Europe Media Campaigner

350.org is looking for a motivated media campaigner to join the Europe Team for four months from July until October to bring the story of locally led climate mobilisations to media in Europe and support 350 staff and the network in their communications.

This role will join the Europe Team to lead on media outreach around two major moments: the Rise for Climate Action mobilisation in September and the Global Gasdown/Frackdown mobilisation in October. Both events will see groups around the world mobilise locally in a concerted effort for action on climate change.

The successful candidate will implement a communications plan to bring the story of these events to media in Europe and support country teams and 350’s network of local groups in their media work. They will collate content from Europe for international materials and integrate stories from other regions into European communication outputs. They will be the bridge between 350 international communications staff and the Europe team to coordinate on outputs and ensure alignment on messaging.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop media materials and content such as press releases, media packs, blogs and opinion articles; coordinate translations as needed with 350’s Translations Team
  • Pitching stories and articles to media and file media requests
  • Build media lists and send press releases
  • Liaise with 350 staff internationally to coordinate and ensure alignment on messaging
  • Work with Europe digital staff to highlight and amplify content from local actions across Europe including curation of photos
  • Work with country and digital teams, photographers and videographers as required to obtain high-quality visuals to share with journalists
  • Support country staff in their media work
  • Daily media monitoring, tracking and sharing coverage, media evaluation
Skills/Experience: 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Experience working with journalists - whether in a professional or grassroots context - or journalistic experience
  • Strong skills writing press releases and ability to communicate complex stories in ways that are engaging and easy to understand
  • Familiarity with the European media landscape (with a focus on the UK and Germany)

We are looking for someone who is comfortable working in a fast-paced online collaborative environment under time pressure. You will be comfortable working both independently and with a remote team; able to lead initiatives as well as take direction from others.

Desired (but not required) skills and experiences

  • Additional European languages, especially German and French Engaged in issues relating to climate justice and social movements
Compensation/Benefits: 

Compensation: UK: 28,200-35,300 GBP per year

Additional Information: 

Position Type: 4-5 days a week for a period of four months
