The Global Ocean Team is a specialized group of science, external affairs, philanthropy, communications, marketing and support staff working within The Nature Conservancy’s Shared Conservation Agenda to implement large-scale priority strategies across the global ocean landscape.
The Global Ocean Team Communications Manager implements and manages internal communication strategies and tactics; and supports the management and implementation of external communications; both in support of TNC’s global ocean strategies.
S/he reports to our Director of Communications, Global Ocean, collaborating with the internal and global communications teams; and with other members of the Global Ocean Team (GOT). The role will work to elevate the external and internal profile of GOT priority projects and goals through writing, editing, content creation and strategy development.
This is a one-year contract with elegability for renewal. The location for this position in London, UK and the successful applicant must have propper documentation and/or the ability to live and work in London effective on November 1st, 2018 and extending through the one-year contract. This position is not eligible for relocation or immigration assistance. This position may require work and or travel (both domestic and international) on nights and/or weekends.
The Global Ocean Team Communications Manager supports the management and implementation of communication projects and initiatives. S/he works closely with various constituents such as project staff, field offices, program consultants and vendors. TNC’s GOT being internationally based, s/he will play an essential function in coordinating across time zones and helping ensure smooth processes and information sharing. S/he will ensure deadlines are met by working effectively and collaboratively.
S/he will create compelling content in service of key projects, including but not limited to developing messaging, feature stories and/or asset collection in support of GOT priorities. S/he will liaise with the internal communications team to effectively deploy GOT communications across available internal platforms. S/he will contribute to project management processes to coordinate planning, production, and promotion with internal and external stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Organizes, manages and coordinates diverse projects and activities with many variables within internal and external communication priorities in support of the GOT
- Assesses gaps and obstacles to recommend and implement solutions.
- Takes responsibility and accountability for meeting priority goals and objectives in coordination with the Director of Communications, Global Ocean, and other key team members.
- Duties are performed under general supervision and established guidelines.
- Opportunity to act independently on assigned tasks and projects. May have full opportunity to direct individual projects.
- Resolves complex issues independently within program area.
- May require work and or travel (both domestic and international) on nights and/or weekends.
- Experience cultivating and managing client relationships.
- Experience organizing and coordinating multiple projects.
- Experience writing, editing and proofreading
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience preferred.
- Demonstrable understanding of ocean conservation topics and ability to share perspectives in these fields.
- Multi-lingual skills appreciated.

- Demonstrated ability to conceive and write creatively for various audiences from technical information.
- Relevant technology skills required to prepare presentations and analyze data to construct reports.
