The Development and Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking an Associate Director to take the lead on all fundraising and outreach events for the London office. This position will report to the City Director in London.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manage and oversee fundraising, outreach, and cultivation events in London including HRW’s annual £800-1,000,000 Voices for Justice dinner, Film Festival Benefit evening, conferences, and privately hosted dinners;
  • Oversee event logistics including branding elements, materials, merchandise strategy, and follow-up;
  • Identify areas of interest for our community with regards to HRW’s work so that the Development & Outreach department can adopt a proactive and strategic approach to events;
  • Manage all aspects of the London Committee including committee meetings, executive meetings, sub-committee meetings, communications, and working closely with the committee co-chairs;
  • Research, identify, cultivate, service, and solicit new prospects, existing donors, and London Committee members, with a particular focus on mid-level donors (£5-99K);
  • Oversee public programs and outreach e.g., manage speaker outreach committee, form relationships with partner organizations, and identify new opportunities;
  • Manage income, and expenditure budgets for our keystone events and smaller conferences and briefings;
  • Represent HRW to existing and prospective supporters through email, in speeches and at in-person briefings;
  • Perform other responsibilities as may be required.
Educational Background: 
A bachelor’s degree is required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • A minimum of five years of fundraising experience is required.
  • Proven success in creating and managing major gifts programs and highly skilled at managing high-level donor relationships are required.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing large fundraising events, such as the annual dinner, and smaller bespoke events is required.
  • Creativity, initiative, follow-through and excellent organizational skills are required.
  • Commitment to working with staff and partners in a positive, collaborative, diverse, and inclusive work environment is required.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills in English are required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to human rights and/or international issues and the capacity to master and represent the mission and programs of HRW are essential.
  • Demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and orientations are required.
  • An entrepreneurial and disciplined self-starter who can work independently, but also function as a member of a development team, is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with fundraising in London is strongly preferred.
