The Membership & Wellness Director at the Lompoc Family YMCA intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined. Under the direction of the Branch Manager and in accordance with the goals and objectives of the Lompoc Family YMCA.  The Membership & Wellness Director is responsible for all training aspects of the Membership and Wellness Departments including membership retention and member satisfaction. The position is also responsible for overall relationship development with members, volunteers, donors and the general community.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Ensures programs and services meet community needs.
  • Promotes program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members. Coordinates program registration, including logistics to support phone, walk-in and web registration. Coordinates with marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provides ongoing support to Program Directors on related issues.
  • Ensures a level of service and engagement that fosters loyalty among those we serve.
  • Organizes membership events at the YMCA and represents the YMCA at community events to promote the YMCA.
  • Ensures proper implementation of Welcome Center procedures. Reviews and updates desk procedures and communicates changes to staff in a clear, concise way.  Coordinates with the business office as necessary on financial transactions.
  • Participates in the planning of the annual budget; manages and implements the approved budget for membership and takes appropriate action to correct variances
  • Leads membership staff and volunteers effectively; recruits and hires diverse staff and volunteer teams; onboards and develops them for success.
  • Assist Branch Manager in developing strong relationships with donors. Hold leadership role for assigned aspects of the annual fund-raising campaign. 
  • Maintain accurate records for all employees (as stated above), including required certifications & trainings, and conduct scheduled performance reviews annually. Responsible for accurate and timely submittal of payroll for aforementioned staff.
  • Assist in developing and leading special events for staff and members.
  • Attend all staff training and meetings, as required. Participate in appropriate PMTs and committees.
  • Ensure the YMCA adult fitness program meets high health, fitness standards and demographic needs.
  • Organize and direct YMCA adult fitness and special interest class schedule, including recruiting new employees and evaluating programs as needed.
  • Directly oversee all aspects of Personal Training department; accountable for all components of department growth and sustainability.
  • Compile special programs statistics, including LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA, Meridian and Housing Authority.
  • Develop Health & Wellness activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Coordinate use of the Multi-Purpose Room for program activities and events.
  • Ensure monthly class schedules are accurate. Coordinates Class Cancellation communication plan.
  • Understand Health Seekers and work as part of staff team to develop programs and an environment that is supportive of their efforts to incorporate healthy behavior into their lives.
  • Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals. 
  • Asks and answers questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being. 
  • Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  • Helps maintain building, equipment, and grounds at branch and (if necessary) at offsite programs 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • YMCA Multi-Team Leader certification preferred. 
  • Previous supervisory experience in customer service preferred.
  • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Current and Professional Certifications required: CPR, AED, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, CAP for Supervisory Staff, Blood borne Pathogens, Lifeguard, and National Personal Training/Group Exercise Instructor.

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $50,000.00
