The Tri-Town YMCA Board of Directors is actively seeking a visionary leader who will build upon past successes implemented by a succession of excellent CEOs, and will continue to create a culture of excellence within the YMCA.  

The CEO will lead the Tri-Town YMCA and will be uniquely positioned to champion the YMCA mission of providing a myriad of values-based programs and services for families throughout the communities of Lombard, Villa Park and Oakbrook Terrace. The YMCA provides camp as well as before and after school care to local school districts both solely and in cooperation with the City, Schools and various other partners. Building upon and expanding these partnerships is a key focus for the future work of the YMCA.

In order to be considered, candidates must have a solid business acumen, sound judgment, and exceptional leadership skills.  In addition, they must have a proven track record that demonstrates an ability to successfully implement and promote the YMCA’s services and activities to the community, assess community needs and develop programs in partnership with others to meet those needs, raise funds through annual campaigns, develop and manage a staff, and work with a YMCA board that focuses on strategic issues rather than operational issues.  Flexibility, solid program development experience, and building and fostering partnerships are critical areas for the new CEO and to the YMCA’s success.  

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Act as an Ambassador for the Mission/Create a Culture of Excellence:  Actively interact and communicate with the communities in the region as a representative of the YMCA. Represent the YMCA’s mission to community leaders, donors, and staff and volunteers. Assure existing strong partnerships are fostered and new partnerships are created. Create a culture of excellence within the YMCA and act as an ambassador for the mission and vision for the YMCA within the community.  Be seen and respected as a leader within the community, proactively creating collaborations to enhance outreach and program initiatives. 
  • Lead and Develop a Staff Team:  The YMCA has a small staff team. The YMCA seeks a “servant leader” who can inspire a positive attitude and build a cohesive team. The new CEO will evaluate the current strengths and weaknesses of all key staff and create a plan to maintain unity, encourage teamwork, hold staff accountable, and foster individual staff development. 
  • Provide Strong Fiscal Leadership and Lead Fundraising Efforts:  Important fiscal goals include a balanced budget, development of specialized campaigns to support the current day-to-day operations, development of a maintenance reserve, the securing of grants through grant-writing, implementation of a planned giving program, and growth of endowment funds. Develop and implement fundraising plans which will meet any current and future needs of the association, building a culture of philanthropy among the board and staff. 
  • Develop an Effective and Diverse Volunteer Board and Create a Strong Board/Staff Partnership:  Work with the Board of Directors to guide the organization in ongoing strategic thinking and planning. Work with the Board to establish an ongoing implementation plan for each major strategic initiative and a process to monitor results.  Assure a vibrant and effective committee structure that utilizes volunteer resources and contributes to the strategic initiatives of the Association. 
Educational Background: 
Accredited 4-year college degree.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and personal values consistent with the YMCA mission.
  • Minimum five years prior experience in a leadership role with a YMCA or related experience at a comparable organization with direct supervision of staff and employees.
  • Must have the ability to develop and strengthen community relationships.
  • Have the ability to develop new programs, review and enhance programs being offered or considered for both economy and the effectiveness in broadening our engagement in the communities in which we serve.
  • Willingness to live in/around the communities served.  (No relocation provided.)

Preferred Criteria for Candidates:

  • YMCA Organizational Leader Certification. (If this is not currently possessed, the CEO is required to obtain this within 2 years of hire date.)
  • Fiscally sound business management approach.
  • Strategic planning and Fundraising experience including annual campaigns and the securing of grants.
  • A proven track record of budgetary and fiscal management of $500,000 or more annually.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Starting Salary Range: $52,000-$62,000 annualized and commensurate with experience.

Benefits: YMCA Retirement Fund contribution (currently fully paid at 12%), vacation plan, generous health plan and other benefits per personnel policy.
