Develops, organizes and implements high quality YMCA resident camp, teens, and youth sports programs.  Manages summer camp operations, family programs, and outdoor education programs at YMCA Camp Kenan.  Manages teens programs, youth sports, and birthday party rentals at the Lockport Family YMCA during the off-season.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manages, directs and coordinates summer camp and all off-season operations at Camp Kenan, and youth sports and teens programs at the Lockport Family YMCA.   Manages birthday party rentals.  Ensures high quality programs, establishes new program activities, and ensures program enrollment targets are met.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs program employees and volunteers.  Reviews and evaluates staff performance.  Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Develops, manages and controls budgets related to the position.  Exercises necessary controls to ensure operations are carried out and a balanced fiscal operation exists.
  • Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.  Ensures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with school administration, parent groups, and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs.  Responds to all inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Generates additional off-season revenue through school, businesses, YMCA and other group’s conferences, retreats and programs.
  • Maintains a safe and efficient environment within Camp Kenan and all other program areas.  Achieves and maintains ACA accreditation for Camp Kenan.  Meets all YMCA and NYS safety standards.
  • Provides staff leadership for the annual campaign and committees as assigned.
  • Responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of camp facilities and equipment.  Maintains the appropriate equipment for youth sports programs.
  • Maintains proper records and department files.
  • Organizes special events related to the program area.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Implements survey collection procedures.  Evaluates program effectiveness and responds to customer feedback.
  • Serves as a member of YMCA management and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA.
  • Carries out other tasks as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in recreation administration, child development, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Knowledge and successful experience in camping, group work, recreation, youth sports or a related field.
  • Ability to direct assigned operations including supervision, training, and development of staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use analytical, interpretative, and evaluative thought in making decisions and solving problems. 
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Competency using Microsoft Office software.
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certifications. (American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or ASHI)
  • American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Certification preferred.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $43,300.00
