Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Aquatics Director will be responsible for management of all aspects of the Aquatics Department. This individual will be responsible for supervision and development of all aquatics staff, oversight of existing aquatic programs, operations and maintenance of aquatic facility, and development of new programming. This person will further ensure that all YMCA standards are being met and/or exceeded as they relate to program and membership development. This position works independently under general direction and is expected to determine how to accomplish tasks.  

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.  Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.  Must complete CPO certification in 90 days.
  • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pool. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  • Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
  • Schedules and teaches swim classes and water fitness classes. 
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Assists with Program Committee meetings
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
  • Schedules birthday parties and special events in pool.
  • Develop and implement a year round learn to swim program.
  • Conducts new employee training and orientations
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in recreation, physical education or related field. Current Lifeguard Certification, LGI preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Current Lifeguard Certification is required. LGI, Certified Pool Operator, Swim Lesson certifications are preferred but not required at time of hire. Must obtain within 90 days of hire.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $26,000.00 - $29,000.00
