The West Essex YMCA, a branch of the Metro YMCA of the Oranges, is seeking a seasoned, professional Youth and Teen Director with excellent business planning and management skills. The successful candidate should have a demonstrated track record of growing enrollment and revenue, while maintaining the highest standards for operational quality, youth development and safety. The successful candidate will be recognized as a respected, innovative leader of staff teams and youth programs. Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director, this position is responsible for developing, organizing and implementing high quality YMCA Youth and Teen programs.

- Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA strategic objectives.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
- Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, may organize and schedule program registrations. May review and process program scholarship applications.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
- Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
- Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.
- Assists in fund raising activities and special events.
- Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
- Assists with Program Committee meetings.
- Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation
in program. - Secures and schedules athletic fields and facilities.
- Organizes and conducts parent orientation meetings.
- Organizes and conducts coaches training and meetings.
- Creates teams from paid and financially assisted registrations.
- Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules.
- Trains and schedules sports officials.
- Develops and distributes sports rules, guidelines and handbooks.
- Bachelors Degree in Education, Human Services, Recreation, Social Services, or Business and/or equivalent experience.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience managing multiple program activities including: Recruiting, hiring, training, and supervision of staff, Fiscal management, Marketing, community relations, and Program development.
- Knowledge of management of Youth and Teen programs, and camp is essential.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to plan, develop, market and grow Youth and Teen programs.
- Certifications Required: CPR and first aid and child abuse prevention, must be taken within the first 60 days of employment; thereafter the employee will attend all Y trainings as needed.
- Team Leader certification within three years.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, flexibility for occasional evening and weekend events.
