The Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges, the largest and fastest growing association of YMCAs in the State of New Jersey, is seeking a highly motivated, mission-driven, candidate to join our team at our Sussex County YMCA Branch.  Under the general direction of the SACC, Sports & Enrichment Director, the Sports Coordinator is responsible for the overall operation, development and implementation of sports programs that encourage teamwork, skill development, and sportsmanship. Major areas of responsibility include, but not limited to, the implementation and growth of youth/adult sports programs, and member satisfaction while ensuring policies and procedures are followed in compliance with YMCA best practices.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Coordinate, plan, and implement youth and adult sports programs including, but not limited to, promotion and registration, securing officials, securing facilities or fields for play, maintaining score sheets and team/player stats, providing scores to local papers and recognition of league winners.
  • Schedule, promote, and coach classes, clinics and tournaments. Ensure all sports schedules are up-to-date and correct.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations, such as recruiting local coaches, schedule programming and gymnasium use and/or rental, collaborating with community facilities for growth or enhancement of future programs and leagues, recruit and recognize team sponsors.
  • Develop and distrbute team rosters, team practice and game schedules, train and schedule sports officials, develop and distribute sports rules and program guidelines. Issue team uniforms, awards, and schedule team photographs.
  • Adhere to Licensing requirements.
  • Assist in Marketing and distribution of information as needed.
  • Build positive relationships and provide quality, caring customer service to members and guests. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Organize and schedule program registrations through eFinesstri while periodically monitoring sign-ups and waiting lists.
  • Maintain inventory and purchase sporting equipment as necessary.
  • Attend staff and program meetings as requested.
  • Assist in all facets of Summer Camp. This includes program activities, early bird marketing, camp reunion/open houses, camp staff training, and parent tours and orientations.
  • Assist and participate in special events as requested.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Recreation, Physical Education or a related field or equivalent experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of three years of practical experience in Sports & Recreation, working with league management and coaching.
  • Knowledge of fiscal management; ability to understand financial reports including budgetary guidelines and expenditures.
  • Experience adhering to Licensing requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, and planning skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and make decisions that adhere to the purpose, mission and goals of the YMCA.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required. Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications, or obtain within 3 months.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft applications.
  • Transportation and valid NJ Drivers license is required.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations if they arise and ability to maintain confidentialiaty.
  • Must have flexible work schedule.
