Director, Teacher Leadership Development

In the spirit of ensuring every student and teacher in our community is able to realize their unlimited potential, we are seeking a Director, Teacher Leadership Development who will ensure that we reach ambitious regional program goals across the two-year corps continuum. The Director, Teacher Leadership Development drives our region’s overall corps member professional development strategy and execution, and is responsible for ensuring strong alignment to the needs of our students and our district partners. The Director, Teacher Leadership Development will lead and manage teams of content-specific facilitators as well as Diversity, Equity, and Inclusiveness Fellows toward student achievement and corps member leadership goals, as well as setting and executing vision and strategy for our corps member pre-service events. 

This person will work closely with the Managing Director, Teacher Leadership Development and other regional teams to ensure alignment between the summer training, ongoing training, and the two-year continuum. The Director, Teacher Leadership Development will report to the Managing Director, Teacher Leadership Development.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Lead corps member ongoing professional development (55%)

  • Work closely with Managing Director, Teacher Leadership Development to create and effectively execute the strategy for improving teacher impact via professional development in order to achieve ambitious student outcomes through a focus on content-specific pedagogy and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusiveness
  • Design content for corps member Race & Equity sessions, including both mixed-race and racial affinity group spaces
  • Cultivate, hire, and manage a high-performing team of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusiveness Fellows who execute professional development sessions in the region
  • Cultivate, hire, and manage a high-performing team of content-specific facilitators who execute professional development sessions in the region in math, science, ELA, elementary, art, music, Spanish, and social studies content teams
  • Build team understanding of and investment in the corps continuum and its execution via All Corps Summits
  • Track and effectively manage corps member compliance with professional development expectations, including attendance at All Corps Summits
  • Partner with Managers of Teacher Leadership Development to ensure professional development is aligned to the coaching support they provide
  • Partner with alumni, districts, community organizations, and other professional development providers to create a more streamlined approach to corps member effectiveness

Lead corps member pre-service development (20%)

  • Set vision and direction for corps member onboarding, Induction, summer development, and First 8 Weeks Kickoff
  • Manage the regional team in executing corps member pre-service development

Support development of Teacher Leadership Development team (15%)

  • Serve on Teacher Leadership Development Leadership Team in order to holistically support Managers of Teacher Leadership Development and corps members to achieve their ambitious goals
  • Design and facilitate professional development sessions for TLD team members to continually raise the bar for their practice as coaches
  • Develop a strong, outcomes-focused performance culture among the teacher leadership development team and the corps

Collective Responsibility and Regional Projects (10%)

  • Serve as regional liaison for national Sue Lehmann Excellence in Teaching Award process
  • Attend all-corps events including regional Induction in June, First 8 Weeks Kickoff in July, All Corps Summits every six weeks, and End of Year Celebration in May for up to 20 days total throughout the year
  • Participate in in-person selection for up to 6-10 days total throughout the year
  • Participate in the annual efforts to have CMs, alumni and other constituencies provide survey feedback
  • Participate in diversity and inclusiveness programming throughout the year
  • Attend all-staff meetings, retreats, and step backs throughout the year
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree
Skills/Experience: 

Prior Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years professional work experience preferred
  • Proven record of achieving ambitious results
  • 1 or more years of design experience preferred, including leading adults in some capacity
  • Former Teach For America corps member and/or staff member preferred, but not essential
  • Knowledge and experience in Arkansas community preferred

Work Demands

  • Ability to work some nights and weekends
  • Ability to travel within region
  • Willing and able to work some early mornings, evenings or weekends

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience. In addition, a comprehensive benefits package is included.
