These general functions will be carried out in keeping with the Goals and Mission of the Lima Family YMCA. Under the supervision of the Vice President, the Sports and Health & Wellness Director shall be responsible for all family, youth & adult sports and fitness programs held at the YMCA. This shall include maintaining quality in current programs and creating new programs when necessary.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Maintains existing programs and develops new, quality programs managing cause-driven needs of the community, while ensuring a successful relationship with community organizations.
- Researches, recommends, develops, and implements new programs taht are impactful, innovative, progressive, sustainable and consistent with the goal of providing community-relevant and well known wellness programs.
- Establishes member incentives to increase involvement and motivate all members to continually engage in opportunities that help them meet their wellness goals and expectations.
- Manages staff to create a first class member engagement experience into YMCA programs and activities through proper training, certification and development of all Wellness Staff and Trainers. Creates effective retention-minded onboarding processes to help new members transition into active and healthy lifestyles.
- Implements schedules for upgrading and cleaning process to ensure equipment and facility meet YMCA standards of cleanliness and safety.
- Collaborates with the Vice President and Membership Navigator on marketing for effective promotions with members and community partners. This includes writing of news releases, newsletters and program handouts as well as ensuring information is on social media.
- Attend staff meetings and hold staff meetings as deemed necessary for the betterment of the YMCA. Identify and respond appropriately to member issues and expectations.
- Develops and maintains departmental budget, making appropriate adjustments to meet or exceed fiscal objectives.
- Develop, organize, deliver and administer sports leagues, tournaments, and other recreation opportunities.
- Plan, organize, schedule, and direct all games, facilities, officials, and scorekeepers for YMCA sports and activities.
- Performs any other functions deemed necessary for the smooth and effective operations of the YMCA.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Management, Physical Education, or Sports Medicine preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- Experience in staff supervision.
- Thorough understanding of customer service and its relationship to membership development.
- Must have excellent professional, interpersonal, public relationss and communications skills. Ability to relate to both youth and adults with effective communication to both.
- Ability to respond to safety and emergency situtations.
- Must become certified in CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 60 days of hire.
