The Aquatic Director is responsible for the development and implementation of safe, quality programs for members and guests. This includes coordination and supervision of swimming lessons, lifeguard/open swimming, specialty aquatic programs and CPR/First-Aid/Lifeguard training. Qualified candidates must have a minimum of an Associates degree, or three years related experience. Current lifeguard certification is required and experience in recruitment, training and development of staff and volunteers. Areas of Responsibility:
- Manages aquatic programs, complying with all Association standards and safety procedures.
- Hires, trains and supervises staff and volunteers for all aquatic programs.
- Develops, manages, and monitors aquatic department budget. Assesses and recommends budgeting for facility and equipment needs.
- Provides leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign, and other volunteer committees as assigned.
- Develops, produces and disseminates appropriate program information in order to promote aquatic programs to the public and to current members.
- Coordinates all aquatic rentals.
- Acts as staff liaison to Y Swim Team and High School Swim Team Coaches.
- Ensures that program areas, equipment and supplies are maintained in an orderly and safe manner.
- Collaborate with community agencies including schools, local/county governments.
- Be available to work hands-on in aquatic programs as needed.
- Provides data and reports on assigned programs in a timely fashion as requested.
- Assists in supervision and development of special events @ the Y.
- Represents the YMCA at various community meetings as requested.
- Attends all staff meetings and trainings required.
- Assume general building/administrative duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
Degree in physical education, recreation or related field.
Skills/Experience:
- Two or more years of supervisory experience in an aquatic program
- Ability to train swim and water fitness instructors.
- Excellent communication and public relations skills,
- Computer proficient.
- Requires trainer-level certification in YMCA Swim Lessons within 90 days of employment.
- First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certifications required.
- Current ARC or YMCA Lifeguard certification required.
- Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in staff supervision and leadership required.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in aquatics or customer service related field strongly preferred.
- YMCA aquatics or operations experience highly preferred.
- Microsoft Office proficiency required; Daxko systems experience a plus.
- Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED and First Aid certifications required.
- Current Lifeguard certification required.
- Current Swim Lesson Instructor certification required within 90 days of hire.
- Current YMCA Pool Operator on Location certification or Certified Pool Operator preferred.
- Current YMCA Lifeguard Instructor, YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer and YMCA Aquatic Management certifications a plus.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $30,000.00 - $34,000.00
