Works closely with Sr Scientist II leading the assay development for both HTS and hit validation. Is expected to make critical contributions to the screening and profiling group.  Projects will focus on drug discovery of CF modulators using state-of-the-art automation and encompass high throughput screening (HTS) of chemical libraries using multiple formats and readouts from biochemical (AlphaLISA and ELISA) and cell-based assays (fluorescence, luminescence, etc.).  

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Assay development: biochemical or cell-based assays.
  • Hit validation of CF modulators targeting transcription, mRNA surveillance, translation, or vesicular tracking.
  • Works independently (project design, execution and reporting) and as part of the team (e.g. representing the group for external collaboration).
  • Prepare and present data at internal meetings.
  • Participate in national Great Strides and related events organized by the Foundation to help people with CF.
Educational Background: 
Talented scientist, BA/BS with 10+ yr.’s R&D experience or master’s degree with 3+ yr.’s experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Extensive experience in assay development for drug discovery.
  • Proficient with a breadth of molecular and biochemical techniques (protein/mRNA analysis).
  • Hands-on experience with automated lab equipment including liquid handlers or plate washers/readers is a plus.
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated scientist capable of multitasking in a fast-paced, teamwork environment.
  • Track record of delivering high quality data in a results-driven, accountable environment.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports to Sr Scientist II, Head of Biochemistry and HTS.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May include weekend and holiday work in the lab to maintain cell/tissue cultures.
  • Use of computer required.
  • Sitting, bending, reaching, walking, and chemical use for sterility cleaning of lab.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (not to exceed 50 lbs.).
  • Once or twice a year travel to scientific meetings or collaborating labs.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation and ability to travel to meetings or events at different locations.
