The Armed Services YMCA is looking to hire a qualified Child Care Director to manage our Lawton Fort -Sill Branch.

Responsible for the planning, development and implementation of all child and youth activities. Implements programs consistent with the needs, special interest and capabilities of the diverse children participants enrolled. Continue professional development through community involvement and further education to meet the continuing education requirements established by the local licensing offices. Provide in-service staff training to meet the continuing education requirements established by the licensing office. Responsible for ensuring that the childcare environment is safe and secure always. Attend all ASYMCA training meetings, special events and staff meetings as requested. Must uphold and promote the ASYMCA mission by demonstrating the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Child Care Director is responsible for the overall daily programs operations including, but not limited to:

  • Develops and maintains relationships with school districts.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of ASYMCA special events and activities;
  • Promote the ASYMCA programs throughout the community;
  • Work cooperatively with all staff, programs, communicates directly and avoids gossip;
  • Assist the Executive Director with program development by always looking for ways to improve delivery of service;
  • Effectively communicates verbally and in writing with parents.
  • Be familiar with and implementing all regulations and inspection procedures required by local licensing offices.
  • Supervise staff to make sure that they have the tools they need to achieve their daily task.
  • Conduct trainings for back to school, Summer Camp, and assist staff in continuing education at local college.
  • Keep records of staff training hours, CPR/First Aid/EpicPen.
  • Set up outside trainers required by state.
  • Schedule field trips and bus drivers to transport campers.
  • Recruit, select and retain quality staff.
  • Order and buy supplies making sure we have what’s needed for childcare.
  • Take an active role in planning and participating in the programs activities (staff meeting, training sessions).
  • Responsible for tracking attendance counts for before and after school food program and military reimbursement program.
  • Plan, organize, and develop a curriculum for ASYMCA summer camps, spring break camps, Christmas break camps, and day camps if applicable;
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of ASYMCA special events and activities;
  • Promote the ASYMCA programs throughout the community;
  • Work cooperatively with all staff, programs, communicates directly and avoids gossip;
  • Assist the Assistant Child Care Director with program development by always looking for ways to improve delivery of service;
  • Be familiar with and implementing all regulations and inspection procedures required by local licensing offices.
  • Responsible for reporting accounting staff changes and updates to HR in a timely manner for processing (New Hire, PT, FT, Work, Salary Changes, Terminations)
  • Ensures compliance with all Federal and state Laws, as well as all Texas Minimum Standards for School-Age and Before and After-School Programs.
  • Oversee food program for child and youth services program.
  • Meet and/or Exceed Annual Budgeted Participant in Childcare
  • Meet Budgeted Department Net Goals
  • Track and monitor budgeted staffing wages in Child and Youth Services
  • Employee will ensure an ongoing membership retention rate of 60% or better.
  • Employee will function as a team to meet branch specific program goals
  • Participation in the Financial Development activities (Partner Campaign) of the branch; including providing guidance and support to campaign teams and/or volunteers, setting/meeting campaign goals and assisting in the collection of the pledges by year-end.
  • Working with the Executive Director, plan and implement the Center programs and activities and ensure that the programs meet the highest quality standards and needs of the community.
  • Model and imbed the organization mission and values into all operations, and customer services.
  • Knowledge required of OKDHS and all State licensing requirements.
  • Ability to respond appropriately in an emergency situation.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
Educational Background: 
Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Seven (7) years child care experience, three (3) years supervisory role.
  • Must posse a current “Class B or C” Drivers license;
  • DMV form with good driving record for the past five (5) years; Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.
  • CPR/First aid certification.
  • The Child Care Director must maintain and have current the following credentials and licensure:
  • 30 hours of training in child or youth development, recreational leadership, or management;
  • Associates Degree in childhood education or related field
  • CPR/First aid certification.
  • Complete required ASYMCA safety trainings (Redwoods)
  • Maintain a valid child abuse history clearance.
  • Successfully complete the State Police Criminal Record Check and F.B.I. fingerprints screening. Results are required at time of hire.
