Senior Managing Director, Program Continuum

In this role, you will work in partnership with the Executive Director and other members of the regional leadership team to set an ambitious vision for new teacher, corps member, and alumni leadership development, engagement, and impact. You will be responsible for developing a strategic plan aligned to achieving ambitious goals at each point of that journey while you inspire and support a team of staff members to effectively execute against that plan. Finally, you will individually contribute to the success of the plan by building relationships and partnering with a diverse group of alumni, district partners, and community leaders throughout Las Vegas. 

To be a successful candidate, you must be passionate about educational equity in Las Vegas. You must also be obsessed with the potential of our leaders to dramatically improve outcomes for kids as a teacher for at least two years and deeply believe that they have the long-term potential and power to help transform the system of education in our state and across the country. You will be a systems leader who is able to manage different team members at different altitudes. Additionally, you’ll be a conscious leader, a team player, innovative and strategic, obsessive about outcomes, motivated by relationships, self-driven, and a compelling communicator.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Set, own, and execute our Program Continuum vision, strategy, and budget (30%)

  • Own and maximize Teach For America’s long-term positive program impact on the life paths of our kids in Las Vegas.
  • Support in the development of the TFA-LVV Leadership Development model and support the development of a coherent, aligned, and comprehensive vision and strategy for the TFA participant experience and impact, spanning: recruitment and matriculation, onboarding, placement, student impact and leadership development, and collective network impact
  • Define interim and final success goals, and regularly track progress against these metrics, resetting strategy dynamically as needed
  • Manage and develop program continuum team leads to develop and refine a portfolio of coherent, aligned, and impactful strategies that are tailored to constituent needs
  • Assess and optimize relationships with corps members and alumni, including regularly learning how we can best support them and strategically evolve our approach, connect them to each other and utilize their experience and expertise to better support the network; serve as a key thought leader grounded in diversity, equity, and inclusion for systems and school leaders
  • Define strategic constituent communications outcomes and coach and manage staff in developing strategies to pursue them
  • Develop and evolve relationships in the landscape grounded in a shared vision of excellent education for all and to optimally advance our mission and strategy
  • Leverage the latest research and innovations in leadership development nationally at TFA and broadly in the field, and evolve strategies to reflect the research
  • Plan the annual Program Continuum budget and consistently demonstrate an understanding of resources (e.g., budget, equipment, technology, subject matter experts, etc.) necessary to accomplish the work.
  • Be fiscally responsible and continue to find innovative ways to save money to expand programming needs while you maintain budget deadlines, AMEX deadlines, and timesheet compliance.

Manage and develop the program continuum team (30%)

  • Manage and develop leaders of each program sub-team – Design & Pre-Corps, Institute, Teacher Leadership Development, Alumni Leadership & Collective Impact– to align our program with the needs of our members and regional strategy. And, act as hiring manager if any of these roles are open.
  • Develop a strong, outcomes- and core values-focused performance culture and collective results ownership within the Program Continuum Team; develop and implement data systems across the program continuum to track progress and support an outcomes-focused culture
  • Coach and develop team to build their own expertise as system change leaders and drive increasingly strong outcomes
  • Ensure that sub-team and initiative goals align with the TFA-LVV strategy, that they have robust strategies to deliver short- and long-term results, and that they execute strategies efficiently and effectively

Serve as a developing enterprise leader, development support, and community liaison  (20%)

  • Inform the strategic direction of TFA-LVV as one of the senior-most leaders of the region
  • Support the work of the development team in rooting their fundraising strategy through TFA’s program and serving as the primary source of communication for the MD, Development.
  • Steward the learning of the TFA-LVV board’s understanding of our program work in order to establish a board program committee and use the board’s advocacy to strengthen our program.
  • Establish new partnerships with the community grounded in a shared vision of excellent education for all and to optimally advance our mission and strategy
  • Strengthen existing partnerships with the Clark County School District, the NV Department of Education, UNLV, and other key partners in our work.

  • Attend regional meetings and retreats held throughout the year, biweekly staff meetings, and occasional conferences and trainings

Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience leading large, complex educational organizations
Skills/Experience: 
  • 7+ years professional work experience demonstrating progressively increasing responsibility, with demonstrated success in all or most of the relevant functional areas (e.g. vision setting; strategy development; general management and people development; designing and managing recruitment, teacher leadership, and school & system leadership programs; shaping and managing constituent communications etc.)
  • Experience building community with a diverse group of constituents and at least 3 years managing a large team to measurable cultural and performance outcomes
  • Experience working directly with low-income communities
  • Prior experience as a school, system, or senior program leader preferred, but not required
  • Experience working in the Las Vegas education landscape or a similarly / more complex education landscape preferred, but not required
  • Experience coaching, developing, and leading adults required.

Work Demands

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends when necessary
  • Minimal Travel required – approx. 2-6 times per year
