In order to build an unstoppable movement to ensure educational excellence for all, Teach For America – Las Vegas is seeking a Managing Director of Teacher Leadership Development (MD, TLD). An MD,TLD leads a team of staff members charged with coaching corps members to ensure their students are on accelerated academic and personal growth trajectories while becoming lifelong advocates for educational equity. The Managing Director ensures that the region achieves its student achievement, corps member retention, and Program Continuum end-of-year goals, in pursuit of their vision. The MD, TLD also supports the development and execution of superb coaching and adult facilitation through a culturally responsive lens. The MD, TLD reports to the SMD, Program Continuum.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Managing Director, Teacher Leadership Development will:

  • Design and execute a multi-year vision focused on maximizing the region’s impact on students’ immediate academic success and long-term opportunities in life.
  • Manage six MTLDs and one Director, Academic Excellence towards ambitious national breakthrough and regional goals. 
  • In partnership with the Director of Program Design, MD of Institute and MD of Alumni Leadership, develop and execute on a theory of corps member development.
  • Cultivate, hire, and onboard new TLD team members.
  • Coach and develop MTLDs and D, AE via regularly scheduled team meetings, 1x1 check-ins, team retreats, and field time.
  • Set year-long and quarterly coach development scope of learning based on Liberatory Education and leading coaching and leadership research that leverages strengths and reflects an accurate diagnosis of learning needs.
  • Build a culture where corps members leave their corps commitment dedicated to advancing educational equity as a long-term pursuit – with a strong likelihood of doing so in the immediate future by teaching a 3rd year.
  • Maintain systems for data collection that ensure we can report out on progress and goals. 
  • Set vision and plan for principal partnerships, to ensure strong collaboration between school site and coaches to monitor progress, align on support, and build long term movement.
  • Liaison with district staff to regularly align on programmatic and corps member efficacy and impact.
  • Implement systems for regular compilation and analysis of TLD data to inform team-wide strategies and partner with the national TLD data team, as well as program tracker, to ensure the validity of our internal metrics.
  • Align with SMD, PC to process and comply with CMPP and CM Handbook for CM retention tracking and processing to ensure we are in compliance and making decisions rooted in our core values and DEI commitment.
  • Support our Development sub-team in making a compelling story to our community about the impact of our corps members and alumni.
  • Hold a clear, personal vision for impact and how it relates to your goals.
  • Attend and participate in all-staff team meetings and retreats.
  • Engage as a key member of the Program Continuum Leadership team by working collaboratively, supporting in leading in Program Continuum spaces, and working to ensure all participants have a seamless experience and that we collectively work towards our Program Continuum and Regional vision.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor degree required, Masters preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • Demonstrated results as a teacher (2+ years of teaching experience preferred)
  • Demonstrated results as a MTLD or DTLD
  • Demonstrated results in vision setting and strategic planning
  • Exceptional communication and organizing skills
  • Experience creating and managing systems, playing close attention to details 
  • Exceptional data analysis skills
  • Strong evidence of building relationships (BRIO)
  • 3+ years of management experience of CMs/Staff preferred
  • Managing or influencing others to achieve a vision that is aligned to goals and priorities
  • Exceptional ability to organize, plan, and execute project tasks independently
  • Analyzing and arraying of data to draw accurate conclusions and to inform team management approach 
  • Making informed, timely decisions and using sound judgment to prioritize actions
  • Tracking tasks, assessing progress, and following through on the execution of plans
  • Strong entrepreneurial spirit to innovate and create scope/sequence of learning
  • Ability to build strong trusting relationships with direct reports, and ensure they are being developed and supported in achieving their goals
  • Exemplary adult design and facilitation skills; understanding of adult learning principles
  • Strong aptitude in cultivating internal and external relationships while laterally managing them toward outcomes
