The Saginaw Bay Conservation Assistant will provide administrative, research, customer service, organizational and general office and web support activities to the Saginaw Bay Watershed Conservation team. This position will be approximately 19 hours per week with a duration of approximately nine months. The position will require the ability to drive long distances in order to work in remote locations and it may also require some extended duty past or outside of normal business hours.
The Saginaw Bay Conservation Assistant will work on a variety of activities including:
Outreach:
- Communicate information about conservation programs and agricultural best management practices directly to farmers, partners and other stakeholders in person and across various mediums
- Help plan events, secure venues, schedule speakers, develop agendas, facilitate meetings, assist participants and maintain meeting documentation
- Maintain and assemble print materials for project outreach and events
- Travel to offsite events (such as meetings and workshops) to represent TNC's Saginaw Bay project. This may require long/odd hours or driving alone to staff informational booth at events.
- Cultivate relationships and potential partnerships at outreach events, along with building our contacts list
Maintenance of Web-Based Assets:
- Review and update online resources
- Catalogue project documents in web-based document libraries
- Maintain and build out project websites
- Provide guidance of project content on partner websites
- Assist in maintaining and updating project contacts
Research and Data Collection/Organization:
- Assist in literature reviews of key topic areas
- Collect and summarizing various types of data
- Organize meetings and record meeting minutes
- Proof reading activities
- Catalogue water quality monitoring information
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Does not supervise any staff, but may help plan and direct the work of volunteers or Assistants;
- Duties are performed according to instructions or established practices; supervisor will resolve any problems or questions;
- Maintain limited financial responsibility, which may include processing invoices or creating travel expense reports;
- May purchase equipment and supplies as provided for in budget and in consultation with supervisor;
- May serve as a team member for assigned work teams;
- Work overtime, as needed; and
- Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.
- Though infrequent, this position may require long hours away from office, including long periods of in-state travel.
- Experience providing administrative support including one or more of the following: phones/customer service, mail distribution, equipment maintenance, or coordinating travel arrangements;
- Experience working and communicating with a wide range of people; and
- Experience writing, editing, and proofreading written materials.
- Must be able to obtain related licenses or certifications as required. (e.g. First Aid, CPR, and Driver’s License).
