If you are looking to make a difference, our aquatics program needs you. Hands-on leadership, staff supervision and training, program development and most importantly member service are a must. This position carries out the organization's mission, vision and values in building relationships with staff, volunteers, and members. This position will require individuals to be organized and focused on the goal of positioning the YMCA as the community’s favorite and best swimming instructor.  Direct reports include 2 F/T staff and 50 P/T staff. Current aquatic certifications required.  Our YMCA is located in Delaware County, PA which has easy access to Philadelphia, NJ shore points and the Pocono’s. 12% retirement, health & dental insurance, liberal vacation and excellent continuing education benefits. Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in aquatics and exhibit a broad range of aquatic programs.
  • In addition, this person must have general knowledge of pool mechanics with ability to trouble shoot pool pump breakdowns, budgeting, equipment and facility management, supervision of staff, planning and organization.
  • Current Lifeguard, First Aid/CPR/AED certification and obtain any other certifications required for job. 
  • Two years of experience in training and leading staff. 
  • Budgeting and department fiscal management is a plus.
  • High degree of human relation skills: Ability to effectively communicate and manage information to peers, staff and volunteers in a prompt and timely fashion.
  • Ability to establish, collaborate and maintain relationships with staff, YMCA members, volunteers, schools and general public. 
  • Exemplify YMCA ideals, leadership qualities and a professional image.
  • A high working knowledge of computers: MS Word, MS Excel and database management.
  • A four year college degree is preferred; will accept commensurate experience.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, problem solve and possess effective time management skills.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Budget administration for all assigned departments.
  • Hires, supervises, schedules and trains all staff and volunteers in assigned departments.
  • Maintains the highest safety standards in every aspect of aquatics operations.
  • Works closely with the Branch Director and management staff to ensure effective communication and operations of all programs.
  • Develops and maintains programs and scheduled member swim sessions year round at assigned sites.
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures established by the management staff and CYEDC Board of Directors.
  • Attends clinics, workshops, trainings and meetings as required.
  • Maintains accurate records for all programs.
  • Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.  Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.
  • Performs safety and program equipment checks and ensures equipment is available as needed.
  • Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs.
  • Provides on-boarding and leadership of lifeguards and aquatic instructors.
  • Maintains a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
  • Any other duties deemed necessary to ensure the success of the Community YMCA of Eastern Delaware County.
