The mission of the Double H Ranch is to provide specialized programs and year-round support for children and their families dealing with chronic and life-threatening illnesses. The Operations team is responsible for implementing programs that impact campers and families. The main goals for the Operations team are to provide engaging, safe, and intentional programs for our campers and families supported by volunteers and paid staff members. As a team we are focused on teamwork, creative ideas and always asking “how does this impact the kids”.
The Camp Manager is part of the Operations team and supervised by the Camp Director. The goal of the Camp Manager role is to support the camp program by providing administrative support with our application and hiring process, supervising our summer counselor team, being residential for weekend programming, being a member of our recruitment team and fostering a strong interdepartmental sense of teamwork and cooperation.
The Camp Manager is a key role to delivering the highest quality staff and camper experiences that have a direct impact on our mission. This is a full-time year-round position that will be responsible for recruitment and selection, onboarding and training, and oversight of camper programs. During the months of June through August this is a residential position and required to live on site.
The work schedule from September to May is typically Monday- Friday, 8-4 or 9-5 but this varies with seasonal fluctuations based on program requirements. This position will require a significant amount of weekend coverage due to residential family programs. During the summer months, this position will follow the camp schedule and will be residential for all camp sessions. Determination of hours and days of work during the traditional work week will be discussed with the Camp Director to provide adequate program coverage and employee time off.
Essential Functions of the Position:
- Assist in the recruitment of new summer applicants (staff and volunteer)
- Assist in the review process of all applicants.
- Assist with interviews and work in conjunction with the Program Team.
- Update online staff application each hiring season.
- Develop and track paperwork for seasonal staff (job descriptions, program summaries, contracts, medical information, background checks)
- Act as an active and integral member of the full-time program team (participate in weekly meetings, planning meetings, etc.) to support the cabin-life sides of camp.
- Supervise up to 40 counselors including training, coaching, feedback and performance evaluation and management.
- Ensure seasonal staff are attending wellness session throughout the summer.
- Oversee cabin budgets throughout the summer program and create budget proposals for Camp Director leading up to yearly budget process in the fall.
- Create a digital evaluation process for all counselors and residential staff.
- Organize and evaluate staff evaluations to better plan for future programs.
- Maintain records for all fire drills, emergency drills and camper rosters.
- Be familiar with and oversee the maintenance of Double H Ranch, SeriousFun, and ACA standards at camp.
- Assist in planning and facilitating all staff orientation and leadership orientation.
- Work with the Program Team to plan and facilitate family and camper weekends.
- Work with the Program Team to prepare program areas for weekend use.
- Work with Unit Leaders to purchase cabin supplies and maintain safety supplies (first aid boxes, sunscreen, hand sanitizer).
- Ensure that all cabins are prepped for summer and weekend programs (clean, organized, and move-in ready). At the end of the summer and weekend programs, work with our facilities and housekeeping department to ensure that cabins are closed properly.
- Assist in coordinating the Camp holiday party.
- Assist with special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in residential camping; special needs camping preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree in education, psychology, social work, or another related field or commensurate experience in the above fields.
- Experience in leadership, training, development, and supervision of frontline staff strongly preferred
