As Accountant, you will contribute to the overall success of the organization by managing Karam Foundation's finances, develop financial strategies planning, and enjoy a collaborative teamwork culture.

Areas of Responsibility: 

MANAGEMENT OF FINANCIAL ACCOUNTS

  • Process financial transactions related to office and project expenditures, and maintain an effective filing system for financial transactions and project documents 
  • Prepare profit and loss statements, analyze revenue and resolve accounting discrepancies
  • Review request for payment to ensure data is reconciled with financial management system
  • Carry out, maintain, monitor and record all financial services related to payments, fund transfers, partners and projects including accounts prepaid, payable, receivable, payroll, accrual properly following Karam’s policies and procedures
  • Maintain all payment vouchers, accounting logbooks and supporting documents
  • Support preparation of project and annual budgets, funding proposals and related budgets
  • Prepare monthly financial and analysis reports for management purposes
  • Prepare quarterly and annual reports for regulatory and donor compliance
  • Monitor spending to ensure activities are in accordance with the approved budget
  • Maintain updated inventory of all equipment and conduct physical inventory checks
  • Support in assessing the financial health of potential and current grantees and projects
  • Monitor/Check partners’ financial reports
  • Provide monthly reports to programs and development team on grantee funds spent and funds remaining
  • Inform Management team when inaccuracies/compliance issues are found in partner reports/supporting documents
  • Ensure accuracy of accounting entries and adequacy of supporting documents
  • Coaching and developing the capacity of local staff regarding financial management, reviewing expenses and demonstrating the benefits of transparent reports
  • Coordinate with the internal and external auditors during audits and prepare financial audit preparation
  • Support in the preparation of guidelines for financial reporting by Karam staff and grantees
  • Participate in development of financial policies and controls
  • Ensure that all statutory requirements of the organization are met including Charitable Status, Income Tax, Goods and Services Tax, Employer Health Tax
Skills/Experience: 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Good computer skills with ability to work with spreadsheets, accounting software packages
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail and problem solving skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Flexible, dependable, and adaptable in working with an up-and-coming not-for-profit organization
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Non-profit Accounting experience
  • Working knowledge of accounting software (Quickbooks) and Online Document Management System (Google Drive)
  • Preferred working knowledge of Salesforce
  • Honesty and strong ethics are required in order to be successful in this position
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated capacity and willingness to learn - open to learning new ways of doing things
  • Professional attitude towards work
  • Proactive and results oriented
  • Friendly, customer service orientation.
Compensation/Benefits: 

HOURS AND COMPENSATION: 

Full-time, 40 hours per week. $50,000/year - $60,000/year
