The YMCA of Northern Colorado is hiring a detail-oriented, even-keeled, consistent and compassionate Business Services Manager for this $12 million organization with hundreds of staff and thousands of members and program participants. It's an important, behind-the-scenes job that is responsible for overseeing registration and business support functions for school-age programs, camp and preschool and provides support to other departments as needed. The Business Services Manager also runs the Y's financial assistance offerings, making this position not just essential to the nonprofit but also invaluable to local families, children and adults in need.

Basically, the Business Services Manager serves as the high-powered engine that quietly and efficiently moves the entire organization forward, seeing both the larger financial needs of the organization while also seeing the individual needs of members, parents and children.

Areas of Responsibility: 

You might be the right candidate if ...

  • You are a people person - all people. This position is charged with overseeing registration and account management, but you understand that there are people behind each account and voicemail and email. This position works with diverse and occasionally desperate residents who need support, who need the Y or who just need you to help them register their child for summer camp (which starts tomorrow and they totally forgot but they have no place else and they are so sorry but if you could return their call...). You are eager to provide thoughtful customer service support to each and every parent, participant or financial assistance applicant. Even making a collections call is an opportunity for you to engage in a firm yet meaningful interaction. At the same time, this position works with a variety of staff members, partners or administrators, and you are able to give them positive, timely information and answers.
  • You also revel in data. You have basic accounting knowledge and serious database and systems experience and deftness. This position prepares monthly and year-end financial reports, generates and monitors aging reports, collections, invoices, account adjustments and bad debt/write-offs. You are a business-minded person who can understand and improve the inner workings. In all actuality, if you think about it, the terms "strategic insight on process optimization" and "data analysis" get you all excited.
  • You are detail-oriented. Nay, you are detail-obsessed, overflowing with exactness and bound to deadlines. You are both thorough and concise. You may have strong opinions about the wordiness of this job posting.
  • You are the ultimate office manager ' overseeing the $5.5 million in revenue that comes through your department while also directing strategic and operating planning efforts to ensure effective and efficient processes while also training and supervising the office staff and volunteers. You are a leader and role model. You are ready help your staff gain experience and understanding of the office's work and relationships. You are even-keeled and reliable in a crisis. You are an office manager on steroids...without actually using performance-enhancing substances.
  • You are principled and compassionate. You are a champion for your office, your staff and the families and individuals you help. That's because you see the big-picture impact of your work. You understand that every phone call returned means a child goes to summer camp, every application approved means a 3-year-old can attend preschool, every process improved means that more lives can be changed for the better.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of management experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent customer service, general accounting, data entry or related experience.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Strong knowledge of computers, related software and database management. Ability to proficiently use Microsoft Excel (and other Office products) required.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to multitask and prioritize daily workload.
  • Proven ability to self-direct and work independently on assigned tasks.
  • Experience in effectively managing a staff team.
  • Previous experience with voluntary/nonprofit organizations preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, particularly the ability to read, analyze, write, edit reports according to prescribed style/format and correspond with external businesses and community members.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, peers, customers and the general public.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, as well as the ability to collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions, reason and solve problems.
  • Bilingual preferred but not required.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary $40,000- $45,000/year.

Applicants must be available to work M-F, business hours, with occasional nights and weekends.
