Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Working closely with our Michigan City/Elston branch to implement association-wide strategies and standards for all Healthy Living Areas including Personal Training, Worksite Wellness, Group Exercise, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, Diabetes Prevention, Enhanced Fitness, Blood Pressure Self Monitoring, Moving for a Better Balance and Wellness Center equipment/layout. Promote Healthy Living initiatives within the YMCA and the community.
  • Supervise Personal Trainers, Group Exercise Coordinator, and Wellness Center Staff. Attract and retain top talent. Assist in recruitment for key positions in Personal Training and Group Exercise.
  • Develop, monitor and control the Healthy Living Budget; consistently meet program and financial goals and implement formal processes to ensure high quality and accurate measures.
  • Cultivate relationships and lead a team to support and participate in the annual giving campaign and other fundraisers.
Educational Background: 
A 4-year degree required. Preferred area of study: fitness, exercise science, physiology, health and wellness, physical education.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 3-5 years supervisory or leadership experience in related field.
  • Experience in developing and managing health and wellness program, fiscal management, wellness initiatives, and staff supervision.
  • Proven track record of developing programs focused on increasing participation.
  • Proven track record of building relationships with staff, members, and volunteers.
  • Current Personal Training Certification from nationally accredited organization required.
  • Current knowledge of personal training strategies, trends, and standards; current knowledge of fitness equipment, group exercise equipment, and industry trends including group exercise and mind/body programs.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, math, and computer skills (MS Office) with attention to details required.
  • Ability to prioritize workloads to meet timelines and maintain confidentially of records required.
  • During coverage and as a safety responder, the ability to crouch, stoop, kneel, move quickly, and/or lift at least 30 pounds will be necessary. 
  • Teach group fitness classes as needed.
  • AFAA, ACE, ACSM, NSCA certification or YMCA equivalent certifications
  • CPR/AED Certification preferred, YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise and YMCA Foundations of Strength and Conditioning required within the first 45 days.
  • Certified to teach American Red Cross CPR/First Aid class within first year.
  • Perform CPR audits on all wellness staff.
  • Experience and knowledge of Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP), Enhanced Fitness, LIVEstrong, Blood Pressure Self Monitoring and Moving for a Better Balance a definite plus.
  • Responsible for the oversight of cleanliness and maintenance in the center ensuring clean safe areas for members and program participants.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $33,000.00 - $38,000.00
