This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides direction and leadership for YMCA finance and business operations. Oversees the YMCA’s accounting practices, the maintenance of its fiscal records, and the preparation of its financial reports. Ensures a system of strong internal controls and maintains fiscal soundness. May provide leadership for other functions, as needed.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Manages all functions of accounting and business operations, ensuring that legal and audit requirements are met and that best practices and maximum efficiency are obtained.
- Hires, trains, and oversees assigned staff, providing direct supervision. Arranges back-up
- for staff as needed.
- Prepares required materials for the annual audit, responds to requests for information by the auditors.
- Submits on a timely basis all required YUSA reporting.
- Oversees and provides leadership to the annual budget process including: issuing guidelines and procedures; training staff, auditing budgets, overseeing data input and preparing reports.
- Implements appropriate systems and internal controls to adequately safeguard the YMCA’s financial resources and to provide a solid basis for accurately reporting financial data.
- Completes the month-end and year-end closings and the preparation of statements and reports.
- Meets with department heads to review financial results and make recommendations for process improvement, revenue growth and expense control.
- Supervises Accounts Payable and Membership Accounting staff.
- Maintains and negotiates Y service contracts, for items such as cable, trash removal, building rugs, building supplies, etc.
- Responsible for all lease arrangements for the Association.
- Reviews and approves all purchase orders.
- Oversees annual voucher renewals for all departments to ensure timely and accurate filing.
- Responsible for bus and bus driver compliance.
- Responsible for insurance reporting and claim submissions for liability and workers compensation insurances.
- Reviews and maintains incident reports. Submits incident report to insurance company when required.
- Oversees payroll administration including maintaining records and related systems.
- Collects and maintains data on government contracts and grants. Assists with financial information needed for grant applications.
- Represents the YMCA with key community organizations and at events, as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in accounting preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- Three or more years of related experience in accounting.
- Accounting experience in a nonprofit organization preferred.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Knowledge of, and expertise with, computerized accounting systems and
- standard business software.
