The Staff Accountant is a senior level position responsible for recording the financial position of the organization in an accurate and timely manner.  This position reports to the CFO of the association and is a full-time exempt position. Benefits include health, dental, life insurance, 12% retirement paid by the Y after 2 years of service and a free family Y membership. This position is located at our Dahl branch in La Crosse, WI. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Major job responsibilities include timely and accurate completion of monthly financial statements; account reconciliations; maintenance of supporting ledgers for select balance sheet accounts; bank reconciliations; preparation of GAAP based journal entries for monthly and year-end closes; maintenance of fixed asset listing; collaboration with the Development Director to record annual and capital donations; weekly review of revenue posting to the General Ledger and Grant accounting.  This role is also responsible for report preparation for YMCA of the USA, governmental agencies and for the preparation of tax returns including IRS Form 990.  The Staff Accountant is the point of contact for our accounting software and is responsible for key setup items, ad-hoc report requests, and general support. 

Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance and at least 3 years of related experience (Associate’s degree in accounting plus at least 5 years of related experience may be considered)
Skills/Experience: 
  • Understanding of and experience in GAAP including knowledge of general ledger accounting
  • Expertise with accounting systems and highly skilled in the use of Microsoft Excel
  • Strong problem-solving skills, excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and multi-task without compromising accuracy and timeliness of end products
  • Must be self-directed, highly organized and have the ability to maintain a high level of confidentialit 
  • Experience in a nonprofit environment is preferred
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $45,000.00 - $48,000.00
