The Molokai Field Program Assistant (FPA), will assist in all conservation operations, maintenance, management and with certain administration duties. The FPA will be supervised by the Director of Molokai Programs, but other Molokai staff may supervised as assigned.
The FPA will assist in land management activities that includes animal and weed control, viability and threat monitoring, field data collecting and downloading, and community outreach meetings and field trips. The FPA will assist in regular administration activities including completing concur payment on monthly utility, vehicle fuel, and supplies. The FPA will also assist with a variety of community outreach activities including field trips, annual Molokai Earth Day, and meeting note taking and completing event sheets for each activity.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Supervises no staff but will assist with communication and coordination of partner work groups and volunteers.
- May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.
- May requires considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain.
- May require long hours in remote settings.
- Makes day to day decisions as delegated by supervisor.
- 1 year’s training in science-related field or related experience in land management.
- Experienced in recognizing native Hawaiian plant and animal species and invasive weed species.
- Experienced in operating various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g. Weed wacker, two-way radio, or similar equipment).
- Experienced in electronic equipment like PC, Printer, GPS, Outlook email and other similar devices.
- Experienced with working in a team environment.
- Must be able to obtain related licenses or certifications as required. (e.g. First Aid, CPR).
- Driver’s license and experienced driving on the roads to Mo‘omomi and Kamakou Preserve.
- Experienced in helicopter operations and safety.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experienced with the Molokai Island and community.
- 1 - 2 years’ experience in land management or related field.
- Experience working with or knowledge of natural systems.
- Ability to follow instructions from colleagues/coworkers/team members.
- PC and/or mobile device familiarity, including database knowledge or understanding.
