Under the diretion of the VP of Healthy Living and in collaboration with the VP of Membership, the Wellness Director is a member service-oriented individual dedicated to the growth and success of wellness related programs and services, with an emphasis on the Wellness Floor and Personal Training. The Wellness Director will monitor program enrollment and satisfaction, engage with members and program participants and will model behavior exemplifying the YMCA character traits: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility to meet the needs of the ever changing community. Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Recruit, orient, supervise, evaluate and reward staff in the Wellness Department and Personal Training Program to ensure that performance is meeting and/or exceeding expectations.
  • Meet with all staff by work area on a regular basis to reiterate expectations and to address issues such as job performance and professionalism.
  • Carry out all policies and procedures to ensure security and safety of facility at all times.
  • In collaboration with the VP of Membership, ensure that all members and guests in the facility are engaged with the utmost care and concern.
  • Model relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Create new, innovative programs and services for members and participants and evaluate effectiveness frequently.Follow YMCA guidelines for safety and implementation of programs to engage a wide variety of age ranges.
  • Make weekly staff schedule for related departments and post in a timely manner.
  • Manage ActivTrax kiosks and software.Train staff on necessary software.
  • Maintain neat and attractive order in wellness areas.Assign departmental staff to housekeeping duties for all wellness floor areas on a daily basis.
  • In conjunction with the Senior Director of Properties, keep all equipment clean, safe and operational.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Marketing, promote and market programs and services to engage members and guests.
  • Report any problems, issues, or departmental concerns to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Budget income and expenses to meet financial goals.
  • Relate to a designated committee (Healthy Living Cabinet) and conduct all regular duties and preparations to support and enhance committee work.
  • Provide for a strong professional image in appearance, uniform and conduct of staff.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required in the wellness, fitness or related field of study.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must be committed to and supportive of the Y mission with an emphasis on support and empathy to health seekers.
  • Must have 2 or more years related fitness industry experience with knowledge, skill, and experience in the development, supervision, and implementation of wellness-related programs and services.
  • Must obtain CPR/First Aid/AED training within 30 days of hire if not already certified.
  • Must be detail oriented with good organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Must have exceptional interpersonal, public relations and communication skills. Familiarity and proficiency with Listen First or motivational interviewing highly encouraged Must be proficient with technology, including Microsoft Office and demonstrate willingness to continued learning.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to train, mentor and develop staff in a positive and professional manner.
  • Must have the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from various social and economic segments of the community.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $30,000.00 - $35,000.00
