The Greater Kingsport Family YMCA (the “Y”) serves the northeast Tennessee community by welcoming families of all backgrounds and engaging them through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The CEO is expected to possess the strong communication and interpersonal skills necessary to be an advocate in the larger community for the mission, goals, and values of the Y through leadership and advocacy positions in other civic and non-profit organizations to build programs that meet community needs. Just as importantly, the CEO must be visible within the YMCA, frequently interacting with members, staff, participants and volunteers. Additionally, the CEO must have a successful track record of continuous development and management of staff through strong leadership, goal setting, planning, and vision for the overall Association.
The ideal candidate will embody a passion for the YMCA’s cause and will reinforce a culture of inclusion, integrity, character, and service within the YMCA organization that encourages and promotes honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. The CEO must ensure the Y staff, members, and volunteers uphold a high standard of personal conduct, and the Y conveys a sense of belonging in all of its undertakings.
Within the first year the CEO must set forth a clear vision through implementation of a comprehensive strategic plan that guides the Y to deliver high quality programs and services and create a sense of unity within and outside the Y. The CEO must be highly visible in the community, and ensure the Y remains a highly respected and desired partner with a strong stake in identifying and providing solutions for community issues. The CEO must implement and direct fundraising programs and practices, ensuring both public and private resources are available to support operational and capital needs.

The CEO must have proven experience with:
- Identifying and aligning the strengths of direct reports and creating a plan for individual staff development, including key changes in organization and position.
- Leading by example, building a cohesive team, and providing coaching and support to all team members.
- Establishing individual development and performance plans that motivate, nurture, retain, and hold staff accountable for key objectives. Includes identifying, supporting, and (where applicable) facilitating staff training opportunities.
- Serving as an ambassador for the mission, cause, and vision of the YMCA or similar organization and be seen and respected as a community leader.
- Public speaking, to both an internal and external audiences.
- Working within a larger cooperative structure to further a shared regional vision.
- Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and personal values consistent with the YMCA mission.
- Minimum seven years prior experience in a senior management role with a YMCA or comparable experience with direct supervision of multiple levels of staff and employees.
- Demonstrated capability to develop and strengthen community relationships.
Preferred Criteria for Candidates:
- YMCA Organizational Leader Certification.
- Fiscally sound business management approach.
- Strategic planning and fundraising experience, specifically including annual campaigns and the securing of grants.
- A proven track record of budgetary and fiscal management.
Salary Range: Starting salary range is $105,000 to $135,000 annualized, commensurate with experience.
Benefits: Benefits include a defined retirement contribution plan with 8% of salary contributed by the Y (when eligibility requirements are met); 100% paid long term disability coverage; 80% health insurance including vision (employee-only coverage) paid by the Y; dental coverage offered premiums are paid by employee; 100% paid supplemental life on employee up to $50,000 and HSA contribution made by Y monthly with employee’s enrollment in an HDHP.
