The Senior VP of Youth Development is a key member of the senior leadership team focused on supporting the vision and setting the overall strategy and direction for association wide Youth Development operations. This position drives quality results in a dynamic and multi-faceted organization and understands and emulates the mission, vision and philosophy of the YMCA to ensure the successful operation of all facets of youth development and the development of new program initiatives, including curriculum, quality standards, outcomes and measurements, associate leadership and development, volunteer recruitment, financial development, community relations, collaborations, partnerships and policy at the state and local level, budgeting and financial results.
- Provides strategic leadership for before and after child care, camp, early childhood education, child safety strategies and the development of youth development leaders across our Y association.
- Develops new and grows existing relationships with community partners while exploring year-round camping opportunities.
- Ensures child safety strategies are implemented throughout our Y association in partnership with the Senior VP, Capital Assets and Risk.
- Collaborates with Senior VP of Member Engagement and Chief Operating Officer to ensure quality and compliance for membership center youth development programming.
- Maintains a close working relationship with Senior Finance Director to facilitate effective fiscal management of youth development areas, specifically working in partnership on the development and management of annual budgets, monitoring actual fiscal and statistical performance and establishing fiscal programmatic strategy.
- Accountable for sound budget operations according to the yearly fiscal plan for youth development areas.
- Provides day to day leadership for all before and after school and camp programs to ensure quality, growth, safety and retention.
- Ensure effective associate leadership with emphasis on the development of unified and consistent curriculum, academic programming, and healthy lifestyles within the after school and camp setting.
- Evaluate program effectiveness through associate, parent, child and school evaluations and manage outcome measurement.
- Supervise and evaluate associates in the implementation of programs, activities and curriculum to accomplish annual quality criteria and meet community needs.
- Works and interacts with the YMCA of Greater Kansas City board of directors and other volunteer committees and councils.
- Partners with Marketing and Communication team to create marketing and promotion strategies for all Youth Development efforts.
- Ensures all state regulations are adhered to and maintained at all locations.
- Regularly reviews youth development policies and procedures.
- Collaborates with Youth Development leadership and People Services to ensure that training and leadership strategies are created and implemented for all associates including new associate orientation, child abuse and neglect training, risk management, and child care orientation.
- Drives quality programming in all youth development programs.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining relationships within the school districts and communities we serve.
- Ensures the expansion and development of new family advocacy and programs for both children and families.
- Maintains knowledgeable of current and best practice trends in the field and develops and/or updates programming and policies as appropriate.
- Plays a high profile role in the community, state and nationally, positioning the YMCA of Greater Kansas City as a leader in quality and innovative child care and youth development. Participates in national YMCA of the USA opportunities.
- Responsible for working with Chief Development Officer to seek out grant funding for programs and to lead youth development program leaders in conducting the annual campaign.
- Work with People Services and Chief Development Officer in engaging and developing program volunteers in all youth development programs.
- Role model strong fiscal stewardship through the development and monitoring of budgets and forecasting.
- Accountable to the Chief Operating Officer/Executive Vice President for execution of policies and procedures of the Association.
- Master’s degree in a related field is desired.
- Five years proven multi-site experience in the child care or education field including preschool, before and after, early learning, and/or summer camp.
- Three years previous experience in volunteer recruitment, fundraising, and fiscal management.
- Five years of senior leadership experience supervising seasoned associates.
- Sound leadership in program development, licensing and accreditation, and operational procedures.
- Proven record of meeting and exceeding goals consistently.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with leaders of corporations, community organizations, school districts, families and program participants.
- Proven ability to have initiative, good judgment and to make decisions independently.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills including public speaking, negotiation, report preparation and presentation skills.
- Ability to relate and work with diverse groups in a welcoming and inclusive manner and ensure diversity and inclusion is operationalized.
- Sound leadership in program development, licensing and accreditation, and operational procedures.
