As a cause-driven leader, the Executive Director of the Bonner Springs Family YMCA is responsible for overall center operations including planning, developing, and implementing membership, programs, community outreach, and services, that create superior member experience and community impact. The Executive Director must have the ability to engage the community and develop a strong partnership with the Y’s facility partner, the Bonner Springs School District. As a member of the fundraising leadership team, the Executive Director is responsible for annual campaign fundraising efforts including case development, events, major gifts and community campaigns. Working with the volunteer Community Mission Board, they will develop the strategies and tactics to deliver upon the Y's promise of strengthening communities.  

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Establishes the center’s annual and long range plans in support of overall Y goals.
  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Center
  • Develops, manages, and monitors the center operating budget and meets or exceeds budget targets
  • Recruits, hires, develop and lead center staff.  Provides leadership and supervision to member engagement, healthy living, sports and aquatics leadership teams. Reviews and evaluates associates performance. Develops strategies to engage and develop associates that support the Y’s culture and goals.
  • Leads the development of the Community Mission Board and committees.  Direct and inspires volunteer in support of the Y’s mission. Ensure the identification and organization of volunteer activities that support the needs of the center and mission of the Y.
  • Serves as a leader in the annual mission campaign and other fundraising initiatives; creates and executes fundraising plan, directs associates and volunteers on implementation of fundraising campaigns efforts.
  • Leads and ensures the creation of a culture of exceptional member and program participant service. Works with center teams to continually improve member and participant engagement and experience.
  • Recommends adjustments to the budget to assure a balanced operation and submits reports on current operations.
  • Serves as a member of YMCA of Greater Kansas City association leadership team and supports the overall objectives of the Y.
  • Plans, organizes, coordinates and assesses the development and management of Center programs to meet the needs of the community and achieves association operating objectives.
  • Represents and promotes the Y in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery area.
  • Ensures outstanding member service and meets all Member Experience program standards.
  • Direct associates and volunteers in the development of program and membership enrollment strategies.
  • Participates in special events, activities and meetings, including staff meetings, trainings, and assigned committees as requested.
  • Ensures compliance with association policies and procedures.
  • Ensures the safety and maintenance of high quality facilities, grounds, and equipment.
  • Participate in the association’s Annual Mission Campaign, Community Mission Board meetings, Association Board meetings, various center and association meetings and/or trainings.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Five years of management experience, preferable in a Y or related industry that demonstrates ability to lead total operations through volunteer development, supervision of associates, development and monitoring of  budget, marketing and public relations, and program development.
  • Experience in leadership of annual campaigns, recruitment and cultivation of volunteers and established success in acquiring major gifts.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations, and not-for-profit sector employment policies and procedures.
  • Ability to create a culture of serving the members and associates within the centers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including negotiation, presentation skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Strong previous experience in face-to-face financial development, fiscal management, board and volunteer development.
  • Ability to analyze complex information and to define and solve problems.
  • Previous experience with $1 M budget or higher preferred.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Hiring Range:  $65,000 - $73,000
