Manager, Teacher Leadership Development

This job is no longer available

Kansas City, KS, USA
Full-time

Teaching is a powerful act of leadership. At Teach For America, we have a deep belief that, even in the first few years in front of students, teachers have the ability to transform the lives and education of students. We also believe that the experience of teaching will strongly influence a corps member’s long-term leadership, and that the corps experience will be a transformational experience for our participants. We believe that prioritizing the development of first and second year teachers is critical to our commitment to students and school partners. In Kansas City we are in the first year of piloting a differentiated support model. The role of a 2nd year coach is focused primarily on helping corps members develop a strong theory of change, aligned with their next role in the fight for educational equity, while continuing to operate as a culturally responsive practitioner that leads their students to strong academic and personal growth. End of year outcomes for the 2nd year team are focused on reaching breakthrough results in our Corps and Alumni Learning Index (CALI) and meeting the bar set in our regional vision for student achievement.

Areas of Responsibility:

The Manager, Teacher Leadership Development – Second-Year Teachers will be responsible for:

Small Group Development (60%)

Opportunities for group collaboration will occur throughout the year; MTLDs will collaborate with the 2 CM team to develop and execute small group development sessions centered on the outcomes listed above.  Session should focus on the following themes, while also being responsive to data trends within the corps:

  • Developing a theory of change
  • Building personal and professional networks through Career Learning Tracks and ongoing opportunities to learn from and with CMs and alumni
  • Having strong academic impact with their students
  • Growing in their practice as a culturally responsive educator

Team Collaboration (15%)

The 2 CM Team will work in close collaboration to ensure alignment across second year development.  Team members will meet on a weekly basis at minimum to share session plans and coaching practices, as well as identify trends across the corps to ensure development is both in line with the overall scope and sequence and responsive to teacher need as necessary.
In the early years of model revision, this time will heavily influence the CM scope and sequence and the tools used to execute and manage CM learning and performance within the model.  This could include but is not limited to development of team documents, trackers, and crafting of communication.

  • Supporting CMs in developing a theory of change that encompasses both the lessons learned during their time in the corps and their current beliefs about the role they will play in reaching One Day
  • Working across the 2nd year team to collectively lead 2nd year corps members in a way that values deep self-reflection, focuses on strengths, and deepens awareness of how their identity impacts their work
  • Maintaining current and valid quantitative data regarding the impact of your corps members
  • Work in collaboration with the Director, Network Impact to retain CMs throughout their 2 year commitment
