The Healthy Living Director will assist the Senior Program Director with Health and Wellness programs that exceed the expectations of the members, program participants and the community. He/She must be able to grow and expand all current programs. This person will oversee the Y's National Diabetes Prevention Program and must be able to create and offer Nutrition programs to members and community partners. He/She must be a team player and must attend all meetings that are deemed necessary. The incumbent should be outgoing and able to interact with staff, members, program participants, volunteers and the community in a positive way.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manages, directs and coordinates any Health and Wellness programs including: Special Events related to Health & Wellness, Active Preschool, Youth, Teen and Senior healthy living and nutrition programs. Ensures high-quality programs continue and establishes new program activities. Expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Develops, implements, and manages Health, Wellness, Nutrition and Fitness department plans to promote program and/or membership growth for the YMCA. Executes strategies to ensure that members and/or program participants connect with one another and connect with the YMCA.
  • Develops and coordinates partnerships with Police, Fire and other third-party organizations that may require fitness testing. Updates and maintains documentation and trains staff appropriately.
  • Coordinates staff trainings and certifications including YMCA ACE certification/ACE certification for Personal Trainers and necessary training for Fitness Instructors.
  • Regularly updates personal training certificates and can sub for staff when necessary.
  • Administration of YUSA National Diabetes Prevention Program according to grant requirements.
  • Develops and distributes cycling, and group exercise schedules.
  • Facilitates equipment repairs, routine maintenance, and overall cleanliness within the Wellness Center.
  • Ensures that program standards are met, and safety procedures are followed.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of assigned program information, may organize and schedule program registrations.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Assists with Program Committee meetings.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent in addition to nutrition certification.
Skills/Experience: 
  • One to two years of related experience preferred.
  • Requirements within 60 days of hire include completion of: Child Abuse; CPR; First Aid; AED; and Orientation.
  • Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications as they relate to Health and Wellness.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $35,000.00 - $37,000.00
