This position provides strategic leadership in financial and volunteer development. The main focus is to advance the YMCA’s mission through annual giving, government and foundation grants, endowment bequests and gifts, capital campaigns, and volunteer administration and development. The position assists the CEO in developing an actively engaged fundraising volunteer board of directors, and in positioning the YMCA as a “charity of choice” within the local community.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Directs and coordinates association capital development, annual campaign and endowment programs.
- Develops strategies to increase volunteer involvement at all levels of financial development and program involvement.
- Develops processes and is actively involved in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gift prospects. Maintains database resource file on top community leaders.
- Prepares and coordinates proposals for grants from government sources and private foundations.
- Develops systems and manages resources needed to carry out the fundraising plans. Establishes and monitors the mission advancement department budget for the YMCA.
- Responsible for all annual fundraising events, including volunteer recruitment, budget development, project management, and solicitation of gifts in-kind and sponsorship.
- Develops appropriate fundraising policies and procedures for the association.
- Tracks all gifts and pledges by source and purpose and provides reports as needed.
- Provides training in fundraising to staff and volunteers. Educates, motivates and provides feedback to individuals related to best practices in the fundraising process.
- Develops communication plans to insure members, participants, and the community understand the case for support.
- Oversee marketing and communication staff; Communication department is responsible for planning and overseeing the association annual meeting, annual reports, newsletters, brochures, signage, marketing and imaging material and any necessary reports.
Effect of End Results
- Secure increased revenue in the Association's annual giving campaign in alignment with the strategic plan goals
- Complete a successful capital campaign in collaboration with community partners, as needed.
- Enhance and deepen the volunteer experience as measured by continued engagement and volunteer survey results
- Increase grant opportunities in line with strategic vision of the YMCA.
Educational Background:
Requires Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent; along with 3-5 years of professional experience with a background in fund raising in the YMCA, or another not-for-profit preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- Must have the ability to relate to top community leaders and have a working knowledge of giving and charitable vehicles. Demonstrated ability to create interpretive materials to enable potential donors to understand the Y and how their contributions help to achieve the mission. Experience in media relations to gain exposure for Y events and programs. Experience and expertise in foundation and government grant writing.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00
