The YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo is seeking a Certified Pool Operatior.


The Certified Pool Technician (CPO) will perform variety of skilled, semi-skilled, and routine work in pool maintenance, including but not limited to: installation, maintenance, modification and repair of pool equipment, building repair, minor plumbing, and electrical repair. CPO may lead and train persons and direct contractors in work performed relating to pool maintenance. CPO will be responsible for ensuring the proper operations of the pools and upkeep of the swimming pool facilities, and ensure YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo is in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local pool maintenance codes.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  1. Responsible for inspecting the pools for the Health Department and compliance of operational and safety concerns.
  2. Responsible for the daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of all pools, and for completing the pool technician’s log and checklists.
  3. Responsible for checking the water chemistry level and offering advice on how to correct these parameters to comply with State Operational Standards.
  4. Responsible for troubleshooting mechanical issues and performing repairs, or directing these needs to the appropriate vendors, either via service desk requests or via own observations.
  5. Responsible for checking equipment and chemical inventory levels to maintain properly based on seasonal needs.
  6. Responsible for providing necessary information regarding renovation or annual maintenance needs.
  7. Safety - Submit water samples for Health Department testing; test and maintain pool chemical levels; test and service safety equipment; administer first aid, CPR, and automated external defibrillation (AED) when necessary; comply with health and safety codes.
  8. The Pool Technician will work closely with Aquatics Management to ensure that daily operations are seamless.
Skills/Experience: 
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in aquatics management and pool operations, or a facilities background
  • Working knowledge of pool water chemistry
  • Basic knowledge of swimming pool equipment, including installation, troubleshooting, and basic overhaul
  • Able to pass a criminal background check, drug test, and possess a clean driving record
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
