The Senior Advisor for Indonesia Ocean Program plans, implements and coordinates programs to affect government, multilateral agencies, international institutions and/or corporate policy across a region or for a large state program, including the Worldwide Office External Affairs operating unit.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Senior Advisor for Indonesia Ocean Program will provide advisory role to all Ocean programs government relation and ocean policy-related works and will liaise with relevant national governments and other partners at national level. Together with IOP’s Directors, External Affairs Director and Development Director, the Senior Advisor for Indonesia Ocean Program responsible to provide advice and bridging with relevant networks supporting national fundraising efforts to cover the budget for Indonesia Ocean Program, particularly Coral Triangle Partnership and Mangrove Ecosystem Restoration Alliance.

The Senior Advisor for Indonesia Ocean Program will be a member of the TNC Indonesia Leadership Team (ILT), contributing to strategic planning, work planning, reporting (including financial), constituency building, policy and financing, science and education, communications, outreach, marketing, fundraising and partnership development for TNC Indonesia.

This position reports to the TNC Indonesia Country Director.  S/he is based in Jakarta, Indonesia, with several travel into the other areas of TNC IOP sites.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  • Manages multi-disciplinary administrative and professional staff with responsibility for performance management, training, and career development. Establishes clear directions and sets stretch objectives.
  • Develops and administers departmental budget and has authority to modify budget based on changing circumstances. Operates within budget guidelines to ensure sound financial performance.
  • Ensures that public and private funds are raised to meet program needs.
  • Work checked through consultation and agreement with others rather than by directives of superiors.
  • Ensures that program meets all lobbying, contractual and legal regulations and standards.           
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • 7 years of related senior-level work experience, such as experience in business development, banking, corporate social responsibility or corporate sustainability.  [OR]
  • Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of related senior-level work experience, including current and evolving political, legislative and conservation trends on a federal and/or multi-state level.
  • Fluency in English and (list language(s) of the countries of the relevant geography).
  • Experience building strong relationships across an organization and with partners such as corporations, public agencies, donors, and/or volunteers.
  • Experience managing and supervising a large multi-disciplinary team and managing a program budget.
  • Experience working with current and evolving political, legislative, sustainability, and/or conservation trends on an international, regional, country or sub-national level.
  • Experience in directing or participating in complex negotiations and presenting to and communicating with government officials, corporate executives, board members and others.
  • Experience designing, implementing and directing multiple and multifaceted projects, setting deadlines and ensuring program accountability.
  • Experience communicating complex processes and ideas effectively to a variety of audiences within and outside an organization.  

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10 years’ experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience developing good governance and sustainable financing frameworks and systems and building the capacity of local institutional to manage natural resources.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing, developing and implementing conservation policy and plans.
  • Motivating team members, setting goals, and leading efforts.
  • Knowledge of politics and society with respect to environmental affairs.
  • Managing time and diverse activities under deadlines while delivering quality results.
  • Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
  • Demonstrated success as an inspirational manager who has successfully motivated staff to achieve and sustain excellence.
