The Mangrove Conservation Coordinator coordinates the scientific and operational aspects of the mangrove conservation activity, focusing on all MERA Project Sites. S/He will also provide support to other mangrove site-based projects.
Guided by MERA Project Manager and MERA Science/Program Lead at TNC’s Indonesia Program in Jakarta when needed, s/he supports annual work planning and budgeting as well as submission of periodic financial reports, and technical/scientific reports. While implementing the work plan, s/he monitors progress and proposes adaptations of the work plan (on mangrove conservation components) to supervisors if required.
The Mangrove Conservation Coordinator is responsible for the coordination on the data compilation, collection, and producing science/program report related to MERA Project implementation. The Coordinator is responsible for the efficient implementation of a work plan for developing the scheme and implementation of science/program in MERA sites.
The Coordinator supports the development of the report for conservation component and management teams as well as assisting in the preparation of proposals. S/He will present the Science/Program to visiting donors and partners.
The Mangrove Conservation Coordinator will be supervised by MERA Project Manager, and s/he will adopt guidance from MERA Science/Program Division. S/he will be based in Jakarta office with frequent travel to MERA Project sites and other TNC sites.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Manage multi-disciplinary administrative and professional staff, with responsibility for performance management, training and career development.
- Gain cooperation from outside parties to accomplish program goals
- Financial responsibility may include working within/managing a budget to complete projects, negotiating and contracting with vendors, assisting with budget development, and meeting fundraising targets.
- Ensures program compliance with internal policies and external requirements.
- Under minimal supervision, makes independent decisions based on analysis, experience and context.
- May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
- Experience with verbal and written communications in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
- Experience in MS Office, Word and Excel. May require Power Point and Data Base Management skills.
- Experience on developing mangrove ecosystem conservation or management plan, and mangrove restoration activity.
- Experience manipulating, analyzing and interpreting data on mangrove ecosystem research/study/monitoring, socio-economics, perceptions, and laws.
- Experienced in working with a result-oriented environment.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in developing, reviewing and administering contracts and/or agreements
- Mastering mangrove ecosystem and associated biota, blue carbon, economic valuation of mangrove ecosystem, etc.
- Familiarity with GIS and other spatial planning tools is preferred.
- Ability to perform high quality translations in either language.
- Experience using MS Office, Word, and Excel. May require database management skills with ability to produce reports. Ability to use advanced computer functions.
- Ability to organize time and manage diverse activities. Meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated flexibility to changing situations and priorities.
- Proven logistical coordination and communication skills.
- Ability to identify a need for change and to be able to implement change.
