The Director of Coral Triangle Partnership (CTP) oversees all aspects of Coral Triangle Partnership program including marine protected areas and small-scale fisheries. The work is encompassing a large, complex geography of the Indonesia’s part of Coral Triangle, provides strategic leadership and support for the CTP fundraising works, and improve national and regional collaboration-networks in managing the Coral Triangle.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Director of CTP serves as the principle contact to private sectors, government agencies, other conservation organizations, foundations and the academic community.  Together with Director of Indonesia Oceans Program (IOP), S/he plays a leading role in donor identification, cultivation and stewardship for the program.  The Director of CTP lead the Conservancy’s team in the management of important marine habitats across Indonesia particularly the areas dominated by coral reefs and seagrass ecosystems in The Coral Triangle areas.  The Director leads engagement with local community to support for local conservation efforts, negotiate complex and innovative solutions with government agencies and private sectors to conserve and protect natural communities, and develop and implement conservation strategies.

Duties include:

  • Develop and regularly improve the CTP program planning comprises of the marine protected areas, blue economy, small scale fisheries, and species protection.
  • Leads the overall management of CTP program implementation in coordination with relevant Directors at TNC’s Indonesia.
  • Together with Director of IOP, the Asia Pacific and Global Teams, Indonesia Corporate Engagement and Philanthropy teams; identifying and evaluating funding opportunities, drafting project proposals, donor reports, both for public and private sources.
  • Assist the IOP Director in staff management of the Coral Triangle team, including team building, assessing capacity gaps and capacity building needs, and developing strategies to address them in collaboration with HRD.
  • Assist IOP Director in undertaking management responsibilities as necessary related to Coral Triangle program, such as representing Director of IOP for relevant meetings and conference, put together and feed necessary program information to the Indonesia Oceans Program Manager.

The Director of CTP is based in Jakarta office & will reports to the Indonesia Oceans Program Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  • Geographic/programmatic size and scope is that of a large, complex business unit, multiple small to mid-sized business units, division/regional or a large program area spanning parts of multiple states/divisions.                             
  • May be responsible for leading or co-leading a whole system program.                             
  • Recruits, retains and manages high quality and effective multi-disciplinary staff with responsibility for performance management, training and career development. 
  • Broad management and leadership responsibility for 10+ staff members, both internal and external to the organization.
  • Develops long-term strategies and achieves strategic goals and objectives
  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.
  • Makes independent strategic decisions frequently based on analysis, ambiguous information, experience and judgment.
  • May require frequent travel domestically and/or internationally and evening and weekend hours.
Educational Background: 
BA/BS degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • 12 years’ experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Fundraising experience, including identifying donor prospects and donor cultivation.
  • Experience directing a major program or project of strategic importance, including management/supervision of multi-disciplinary teams and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience working with current trends and practices in relevant discipline(s) and geographic regions.
  • Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
  • Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or   government agencies. 
  • Experience negotiating                                               
  • Experience influencing, developing and implementing conservation policy and plans at the state or country level.
  • Experience with financial management of a large program.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi- lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • 13-15 years’ experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Developing practical applications of scientific concepts and technical innovations for conservation purposes.
  • Knowledge of methods and standards of biodiversity information systems and initiatives and experience conceiving and implementing strategic initiatives.
  • Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
  • Politically savvy.
