The Accountant provides specialized finance/accounting-related services to a department or business unit.
The Accountant provides specialized services in financial management and reporting; and/or similar financial activities for The Nature Conservancy Indonesia Program (TNC-IP). S/he has a high level of expertise in his/her area(s) of specialization. S/he administers and maintains finance/accounting activities in accordance with TNC policies and procedures and best practices in financial management. The Accountant provides assistance to staff in his/her specialty area. S/he responds to moderately complex employee/management questions and problems based on advanced knowledge of the subject area.
The Accountant performs a variety of routine and non-routine accounting related works and is responsible for through verification of among others account payables, preparing vendor payments, processing expense reports/claims, banking transactions which include bank reconciliation, act as petty cash holder, prepares journal entries and preparing and/or reviewing general ledger transactions to insure accuracy of TNC’s IP financial reports. The Accountant is expected to provide valid, relevant and accurate financial and operating information on timely basis to support the Accounting Operations Manager in decision making and controlling the overall performance of the TNC-IP financial reporting.
The Accountant also administers/manages staff payroll where s/he reviews employee hours from the time recording system (Deltek) and this includes verifying employees ‘paid time off, overtime, calculating taxes and differential payments according to TNC Indonesia’s policies (e.g. making Jamsostek/BPJS Ketenagakerjaan calculations, processing insurance payments, medical claims and employee savings program). S/he keeps/files employees’ timesheet documents as necessary. S/he reviews the information in the payroll to determine if there are errors. S/he also arranges the mail delivery of salary slips to employees. S/he updates information in the payroll system whenever an employee receives a pay raise, variable ay or leaves the company. S/he works with WO payroll team in the implementation of the Deltek system for the Indonesia Program.
Related to payroll, the Accountant helps the programs with reviewing processes, system and procedures to ensure that we fully adhere to TNC’s standard policies and procedures, donor intent and requirements and government regulations and provides recommendation which s/he believes could bring to a better improved internal control of TNC Indonesia. S/he works closely with tax consultant on preparation and reporting of annual tax return art 21. S/he serves as liaison between tax audit & finance/accounting units on things related to taxation and provides Grants Specialists with information regarding labor distribution reports as needed.
The Accountant reports to the Accounting Operations Manager with dotted line to the Human Resources Manager (with regards to payroll) and is based in Jakarta.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with accounting/financial issues and analysis.
- Experience using accounting and financial reporting systems.
- Technical experience with spreadsheet programs, general ledger reports and financial management tools.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data. Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel
- Strong organizational skills

- Non-profit accounting experience
- May require technical expertise on complex accounting/financial issues
- US government grants accounting experience may be preferred or required
