Wounded Warrior Project’s (WWP) Public Relations Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the team is apprised of WWP mentions in the news from broadcast, online and print news outlets. Oversees and manages the content being placed in the newsroom located on the main WWP website. Assists the public awareness team with duties as assigned.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Act as the main POC with vendors overseeing the newsroom, media monitoring, wire distributing services, media database and supporter newsletter distribution tools
- Review, edit and provide feedback to vendor on production of daily clipbook and end of the day reports.
- Distribute daily clipbook reports to leadership team
- Maintain tracking and develop monthly reports for monitored news clips from broadcast, online and print sources.
- Responsible for on demand reporting of high profile news or media interviews with executives or high profile events
- Responsible for downloading and saving to our server all high profile news or media interviews with executives or high profile events
- Responsible for managing the development, content strategy and voice of the newsroom
- Keep apprised of and manage the implementation of any WWP website design changes that affect the newsroom.
- Work with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) vendor to implement recommendations to optimize newsroom to appear when key search terms are being entered into web browsers
- Tag keywords on the backend of the newsroom to conform to SEO
- Develop SEO cheat sheet of keywords to include in content written by public awareness team.
- Track and report on newsroom metrics
- Draft media advisories and news releases to be pitched to media outlets or distributed across the wire.
- Draft content to be posted to newsroom
- Responsible for arranging and establishing an agenda for monthly content brainstorm meeting
- Responsible for arranging all public awareness team meetings and duties as assigned
- Resize, upload and ensure image assets are available for download from the newsroom
- Upload videos to YouTube and pull embed codes to be uploaded to newsroom
- Assist all WWP teams with PR activities as necessary for special events, fundraisers and key initiatives
- Develop, curate and distribute bi-weekly supporter newsletter
- Held accountable to monthly KPIs based on organizational priorities
- After hours and weekend availability to run on demand reports or attend public awareness events.
- Other related duties as assigned
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in marketing, communications or journalism; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
Skills/Experience:
- Excellent writing and proofreading skills
- Ability to use tools for media monitoring, media database and newswire distribution
- Strong experience with a content management system for an organization’s newsroom
- Extremely detail oriented, thrive under pressure, and produce high-quality deliverables from management of multiple projects
- Excellent project management skills
- Excellent organizational and communications skills
- High energy level, self-starter willing to take initiative
- Exceptional interpersonal skills; team player, ability to communicate with diverse personalities, tactful, mature, and flexible
- Good reasoning abilities and sound judgment
- Resourceful, well organized, dependable, and efficient
- Must possess advanced level skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop and Publisher
- Must be comfortable working on short deadlines
- Minimum of three (3) years of business experience in the public relations field required
