The Wounded Warrior Project’s (WWP) Network Engineer designs, implements, maintains, and supports WWP’s network. The Network Engineer analyzes technology requirements and plans and executes the implementation of new solutions or modification of existing systems to provide sufficient capabilities to handle projected workloads.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Design and implement new network solutions. Maintain and troubleshoot existing network infrastructure.
  • Install and configure network equipment, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless, etc.
  • Develop and regularly update network design diagrams and documentation.
  • Perform regular tests of network redundancy, failover, and high availability capabilities.
  • Create and maintain network standards, policies, and procedures and keep accurate records and history.
  • Monitor network performance and utilization metrics and make necessary adjustments.
  • Plan, schedule, and execute updates and upgrades for network equipment and software.
  • Evaluate and procure network equipment and data services from vendors and service providers.
  • Accountable for network security, ensuring that monitoring is completed at appropriate intervals and taking effective action as needed.
  • Maintain firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention (IDS/IPS), security appliances, and security-related software packages.
  • Remain current on emerging tools, techniques, methodologies, and technologies.
  • Produce high-quality written products documenting findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Assist in the operations and maintenance of enterprise data network components to sustain and support operational and mission critical business systems.
  • Accountable for network continuity planning, testing, and recovery.
  • Respond to data center and network outage events and ensure prompt return to service.
  • Provide second tier technical support for network infrastructure problem resolution.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring for other Information Technology teams.
  • Respond to all emergency after-hours phone calls and pages within 30 minutes of being contacted.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
High school diploma or GED.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experienced in deployment strategies for new technologies within a geographically diverse environment.
  • Adept at implementing technology-enabled business solutions for clients as part of a high-talent team focused on over-delivering customers' needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and diagnose and resolve problems and issues. Passionate about technology and solving IT operations-focused problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and resolve issues, and deploying an ownership attitude to drive initiatives to completion.
  • Strong collaboration skills.  Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member and identify and resolve problems and accomplish goals and objectives. Ability to work effectively with staff, peers, and others inside and outside the organization.
  • Ability to be available 24/7 for the resolution of emergency network problems affecting WWP’s ability to provide business continuity. Be available on weekends and off-hours for maintenance and as needed.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Five years of experience with network design, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting experience within a Cisco network environment.
  • Five years of experience working with other network technologies and concepts, e.g., advanced routing protocols, subnetting, VLAN, VPN, load-balancing, network security (firewall/IDS/IPS).
  • Five years of hands-on experience with the installation, configuration, and support of IEEE 802.11 Wireless network technologies.
  • Two years of hands-on experience with the installation, configuration, and support of VoIP and SIP Trunking.
  • Two years of hands-on experience working with SD-WAN.

Preferences

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems.
  • Three years of experience working with the following Cisco products: ASA, Catalyst, Nexus, Firepower, AnyConnect, Meraki, WebEx, and Unified Communications.
  • Three years of experience working with vendors and contractors.
  • Two years of experience working with non-profit organizations.

Certifications & Licensure

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).

Preferences

  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).
