The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Marketing Director provides thought leadership and strategic planning to the WWP Resource Development (RD) and Program teams and guides the development and implementation of Marketing Plans to support their business objectives and the overall WWP mission. The Marketing Director ensures a consistent and compelling brand experience for key constituents from initial interest throughout their lifetime to drive revenue, volunteerism, engagement, and advocacy.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Build brand awareness, engagement, adoption, and advocacy for WWP program offerings and strategic initiatives through integrated marketing efforts.
  • Partner with the VPs of Resource Development (RD), Direct Response, and Programs to establish business objectives, develop marketing plans, and execute activities (measure, manage and optimize) to meet marketing goals for all offerings.
  • Leverage the current warrior experience to foster further engagement that ultimately drives advocacy and showcases it to key constituents, e.g., prospective warriors, care-givers, family members, and donors.
  • Supervise the continuous curation, creation, and facilitation of marketing plans content, including digital materials, printed materials, and the development and maintenance of web properties.
  • Research current VSO/non-profit marketing trends and other marketing campaigns and materials, incorporating this information as appropriate to ensure WWP marketing approaches are informed, in context, relevant, competitive, differentiated, and effective.
  • Establish KPI methodology to help evaluate the effectiveness of all marketing activities.
  • Provide guidance to the Marketing team members as they work with internal WWP partners to develop marketing plans for strategic initiatives communicating to donors, warriors and their family members, and the public.
  • Work with RD, Program, and Public Awareness leadership teams to determine support and appropriate marketing strategy for each initiative.
  • Supervise all marketing efforts to ensure brand consistency.
  • Steward the mission, vision, values, and culture of WWP and provide leadership to the Marketing team.
  • Manage RFP process, including soliciting RFPs from desirable prospective strategic agencies and partners.
  • Oversee vendor and agency relationships to ensure effectiveness and success.
  • Assess all marketing activities and initiatives against plan objectives and pre-determined business objectives.
  • Monitor and report on marketing results and effectiveness to ensure goals are measured, managed, and achieved. Utilize data to monitor progress, make data-informed decisions, and recommend action.
  • Oversee marketing budget. Work with internal and external stakeholders to develop, maintain and optimize Marketing budget.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree in business, marketing, communications, or related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Demonstrated technical expertise to manage, integrate, optimize, and direct web-based and traditional marketing activities.
  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic and operational planning, measurement, analytics, and trend analysis.
  • Strong creative and design sense.
  • Extensive marketing management and strategic planning experience with a proven track record in developing and successfully executing integrated marketing programs.
  • Strong customer orientation. Positive, outgoing, personable, with ability to relate well with diverse populations.
  • Strong supervisory skills to manage team of creative marketing managers.
  • Ability to work effectively leading a high-performing team.
  • Strong leadership and consensus building skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office, e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the organization

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. Equivalent combination of applicable education, training, certification, or experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Seven years’ experience in Communications and/or Marketing.

Preferences

  • Ten years’ experience in Communications and/or Marketing.
  • Three years of nonprofit and fundraising experience.
