The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) HRIS/Benefits Specialist supports and maintains the human resources information system (Workday), ensuring data integrity, preparing reports, and serving as point-of-contact for assigned functional areas. The HRIS/Benefits Specialist assists with administration of employee benefit programs, e.g., medical, dental, vision, life, disability, 401(k) retirement, workers’ compensation, leaves of absence, and wellness programs.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Update and maintain Workday employee data accurately in Human Resource Information System (HRIS).
  • Ensure data integrity in Human Resource Information System (HRIS).  Conduct audits and analyze data to ensure accuracy. Identify issues and work with teammates to resolve and correct.
  • Prepare ad hoc and standard HRIS reports for ongoing needs, e.g., benefits reports, leaves of absence reports, management reports. Write, maintain, and support reports or queries utilizing reporting tools.
  • Assist with design and implementation of HRIS. Assist with review, testing, and implementation of HRIS system upgrades or patches. Collaborate with functional and technical teammates to coordinate the application of upgrades or fixes.
  • Provide support for HRIS. Research and resolve HRIS problems, unexpected results or process flaws; perform scheduled activities. Recommend solutions or alternate methods to meet requirements.
  • Assist with annual internal and external processes and reporting, e.g., benefits open enrollment, testing processes, and compliance with government regulations.
  • Respond to employee inquiries on general benefits and leave questions and issues.
  • Serve as liaison between employees and benefit providers to resolve administrative problems with carrier representatives.  Effectively manage vendor relationships.
  • Coordinate benefit processing, new enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability claims, accident and death claims, 401(k) plan transactions, and other legally mandated benefits information, ensuring accuracy and timeliness or processing. Assist with reconciliation of monthly billing statements.
  • Facilitate benefit workshops, new hire onboarding presentations, and ensure benefit data is available to team members. Support enrollment processes by responding to teammate requests.
  • Coordinate employee benefit programs, e.g., wellness programs, tuition reimbursement, discounts, etc.
  • Assist with preparation of annual open enrollment, coordinate open enrollment meetings, and assist with enrollment processes, including HRIS updates and maintenance.
  • Document processes and results. Prepare Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintain currency and accuracy of SOPs.
  • Assist with teammate leave plans and maintain leave-related documentation.
  • Initiate workers’ compensation claims with third-party administrator. Prepare and send workers’ compensation-related correspondence and all notice-only claims.
  • Recommend process improvements, benefit plan design changes, HRIS functional enhancements, and innovative solutions to improve services, plans, and programs for teammates and the organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree. Equivalent combination of applicable education, training, certification, or experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of human resources information systems, e.g., Workday.
  • Demonstrated understanding of employee benefits plans administration including legal requirements, terminology, and reporting requirements.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employee benefits laws and regulations e.g., FMLA, COBRA, ADA, EEO, DOL, ERISA, HIPAA, ACA, USERRA, Social Security, and workers’ compensation.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to interact with diverse team members and build effective working relationships with team members.

  • Demonstrated computer proficiency using Microsoft Office, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.

  • Three years of experience in the role of a human resource.
  • Three years of experience working with human resources information systems, e.g., Workday.
  • Three years of experience with Excel, e.g., auditing, data analyses, and reporting.

Preferences

  • Three years of experience administering employee benefits plans.

Certifications & Licensure

  • PHR, SHRM-CP, or pursuing certification preferred.
