The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Employee Benefits & Wellness Specialist coordinates the WWP multi-site employee wellness and health promotion program and administers employee benefits plans, including medical, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, 401(k) retirement, short-and long-term disability, workers’ compensation, with an emphasis on administering all leave of absence plans.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Coordinate planning, development, communication, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of the WWP wellness and health promotion program.
- Improve awareness, enhance motivation, and support teammates to encourage healthy behaviors and improve health, wellness, and well-being.
- Coordinate ongoing wellness committee meetings, communications, and follow-up.
- Serve as primary contact and resource for teammates for leaves of absence, e.g., workers’ compensation, Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA), military leaves, disability leaves, State sponsored leave, parental leave, and personal leaves.
- Support the ADA and job accommodation function. Escalate complex questions and issues to benefits & compliance senior specialist as appropriate.
- Provide support to teammates prior to and upon return from leaves of absence.
- Manage leave-related documentation and serve as liaison with insurance carriers.
- Ensure workers’ compensation injury reports are timely filed with third-party administrator, and follow up. Prepare and send workers’ compensation-related correspondence and all notice-only claims.
- Ensure compliance with state and local leave laws and regulations and reporting requirements.
- Serve as point of contact and resource for employee inquiries on general employee benefits questions and issues.
- Process and maintain health, wellness, dental, vision, life, AD&D, and 401(k) plan transactions, legally mandated benefits information, and enrollment documentation, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Conduct new teammate onboarding benefits presentations.
- Prepare employee benefits communications, including newsletters, workshops, webinars.
- Conduct benefits plans audits.
- Prepare reports for management on status of wellness program, benefits plans, and leaves of absence.
- Reconcile monthly insurance billing statements.
- Collaborate with senior employee benefits specialist and HRIS teammates for annual open enrollment preparation including assisting with information and data for HRIS, preparing presentations, and assisting with meetings.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree. Equivalent combination of applicable education, training, certification, and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
Skills/Experience:
- Demonstrated understanding of workplace health promotion programs including implementation, coordination, communication, and evaluation.
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employee benefits laws and regulations, e.g, FMLA, COBRA, ADA, EEO, DOL, ERISA, HIPAA, ACA, USERRA, SSA, Section 125, and workers’ compensation.
- Working understanding of employee benefits plans administration including legal requirements, terminology, and reporting requirements.
- Computer proficiency and technical skills with., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint. Experienced with HRIS and benefits databases.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver effective communications, e.g., benefits training presentations and wellness program promotion.
- Highly effective interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with diverse personalities in a tactful, mature, and professional manner Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong communication skills. Respond timely and accurately to requests.

- Five years of employee benefits administration experience, or five years of experience in a human resources position working with benefits communication, leave of absence administration, wellness program coordination, or legal compliance.
Preferences
- Four years of experience administering employee benefits.
- Three years of experience administering leaves of absence.
- Two years of experience coordinating workplace wellness or health promotion programs.
Certifications & Licensure
- Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS), Group Benefits Professional (GBP), Professional in Human Resources (PHR), or SHRM-CP, or currently pursuing certification preferred.
