The Director of Development will lead our campaign to raise $2.6 annually in private gifts to support operating revenue. The Director of Development (DD) will report to the Managing Director, Development and Operations (MD, DO), and work closely with the Executive Director on setting and executing high level development strategy, and managing a portfolio of donors and prospects. To be successful, a DD must be a critical thinker who is able to set a bold vision, develop strategies and an operating plan to achieve this vision, and then skillfully manage team execution to achieve results. This individual must be comfortable in an entrepreneurial environment and possess an exceptionally high level of personal responsibility for achieving ambitious results.
- Working closely with the MD, DO and Executive Director to create and execute the regional strategic and operating plans, ensuring that the region maximizes opportunities, meets its goals, and significantly grows funding while building long-term sustainability
- Analyzing historical and market data to set ambitious yet feasible revenue, donor quantity and retention goals for the next three to five years, and setting interim benchmarks to monitor progress
- Developing pitches, strategies and tactical plans to achieve goals for different donor segments
- Regularly assessing team-wide progress to goals, identifying what is driving and impeding progress, developing solutions to address gaps, and adjusting course as necessary
- Managing a manager-level employee to progress toward goals and develop them as a professional in order to ensure Jacksonville’s fundraising efforts are tightly executed and highly effective. Specifically ensuring the team:
- Strategically builds and manages their donor portfolios, by mapping out a path to their goals and designing and implementing donor engagement plans
- Conducts excellent donor interactions and communications (i.e., meetings, events, newsletters, grants)
- Develops and maintains strong operations (i.e., donor tracking systems, data management, meeting prep and download systems, gift processing)
- Prioritizing key actions for the ED to take in cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors through external meetings, events and correspondence and ensuring the team prepares/supports ED to execute
- Cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of donors through external meetings, events, and correspondenceSupporting the executive director in regional advisory board management, including helping to set a strategic vision for the advisory board’s role in development, preparing for and participating in board meetings, managing board members on specific projects or activities, and corresponding with board members as needed
- Minimum 4 years of experience and experience managing others strongly preferred
- Willingness to work some weekends and eveningsWillingness to travel within region for in-person meetings
- Uncommon level of personal responsibility with exceptional goal orientation and a proven track record of success
- Critical thinker who enjoys spending significant time solving problems and developing opportunities in order to achieve the most meaningful outcomes
