The Jackson YMCA is currently in a Capital Campaign for a new state of the art facility. The position offers a great opportunity for growth.
The Healthy Living Director at the Jackson YMCA intentionally will foster a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined while also overseeing the oversight and planning of YMCA programs and program-related operations at both the Downtown and Summit Branch. The Healthy Living Director will b responsible for over 100 group fitness classes weekly, approximately 75 staff members and multiple health and wellness programs.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Perform excellent service to all members, staff, volunteers, and guest.
- Builds relationships with members, staff and volunteers.
- Communicates with supervisor, staff, members, guest, and volunteers in a clear, concise and positive manner while using Listen First skills.
- Understands supports and is committed to the YMCA cause and our role in the community as a leader in Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.
- Develops and implement cause-driven programming that promotes Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.

- Actively participates in management team meetings and committees as assign.
- Build a culture of philanthropy within your department by building Y ambassadors within your staff/volunteer team, building relationships, and creating a case for support (need/response/impact).
- Work to ensure a diverse and inclusive culture at the Y.
- Know and follow the established Human Resources and Business Services procedures of the association.
- Responsible for assuring high standards of program quality and safety in accordance with YMCA safety and risk management policies.
- Oversee recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, development and schedules all department staff, volunteers.
- Motivate and engage your employees and volunteers to increase retention and understanding of our Cause through regular staff meetings.
- Lead, direct and/or teaching activities/classes for which employees or volunteers cannot be secured.
- Develop your department’s annual budget; monitor and make adjustments as needed.
- Complete and approve payroll for your department as outlined in the payroll guidelines.
- Assure high standards of program quality and safety in accordance with YMCA safety and risk management policies.
- Respond to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
- Ensures that program areas are clean, equipment is in good working order, that repairs are made on a timely basis and preventive Maintenance is performed regularly.
- Perform community presentations about YMCA programs and initiatives
- Recruit and oversee corporate memberships and or offsite wellness programs.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree or actively pursuing a bachelors’ degree from an accredited 4-year institution.
Skills/Experience:
- Certification in group exercise and personnel training
- CPR, First Aid and AED certifications required within 30 days of hire.
- Skills in supervision, budget management.
- Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
- Highly organized with proficiency in computer software. Ability to problem-solve and interact effectively with vendors, customers, and site visitors
- Begin to work towards YMCA Team Leader certification within the first year.
- Completion of Presidium courses.
- Dependable transportation with the ability to work a variety of scheduled hours but with the understanding that you are on call.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $30,000.00
